View Full Version : Sequential Tail Light Conversion Why Wouldn t This Work

After a search, I could not find anything on sequential tail light conversions, so, I've come up with something on my own. Please read below... I really don't see why this wouldn't work? Any of you electrical guys see any issues with this??
Okay, so the two pics below are the back of the tail light and the reverse lights. Note the three sockets for the tail lights, and the two sockets for the reverse lights.

This next pic below is from a 2012 Mustang. It also has three sockets for the tail lights and the two sockets for the reverse lights (see red arrows).

There's a Tail Light Sequencer Module made by Diode Dynamics for the 2010-2016 Mustang to convert the factory non-sequencing tail lights to sequencing (pic below).
Here's the deal. I don't see why I couldn't take a 2010-2016 Mustang tail light harness, cut off all sockets, re-wire with the viper tail light and reverse light sockets, and plug the Diode Dynamics pigtail in line with the existing viper tail light harness. Of course, I would also have to splice in a mustang tail light harness connector "upstream" of the harness to be installed so the pigtail would plug in both ends.
What do you guys think? I don't see any showstoppers on paper.

Hell, try contacting Diode Dynamics and see if they will make u a custom set. I bet they are hand made anyway.
Interesting idea. Curious to see if it works out.
I have no clue as I can barely check my own email.

Haha:smilielol:, Well, you did something right. You have a viper sitting in your driveway. I'll see what DD has to say tomorrow.
Why?
Why not? If it does work and I don't like it, all I have to do is remove the pigtail. Boom.
This is what I ask "why?" to:

I've tried this using http://www.webelectricproducts.com/ universal sequencer. I couldn't make it work. Remember the turn signal and brake lights are separate from factory. The lower lamp housing has only one back up bulb, the other bulb is the turn signal. I tried moving the turn signal up to the upper housing and using all 3 bulbs as sequentials. Starting with a trailer converter. (https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Curt/C55370.html?feed=npn&gclid=CjwKCAjw-8nbBRBnEiwAqWt1zcH0slm53tZE_QgtiYLh7DdZSOf61yMHw7M D6Mwc8vtFKtRzt_nUCBoC8ZQQAvD_BwE)
I can't even remember what all I tried, any combination of replacement LED's, digital flashers, different brand trailer converters, diodes.. It just never worked, would back feed to the other side, flash dim, not flash as all with the brakes on, etc.
I ended up giving up, moving the turn signal back down to the lower housing, and utilizing the back up light bulb , as part of a 2 bulb sequential system. Installed two diodes on the reverse lights so they still function normal in reverse.
Ill get a vid of it in action tonight.

Thanks for the links! Sounds like you've already been down this road. I'll see what I can do. I haven't had a chance to call Diode Dynamics, but I will touch base with them and post a quick update.
Any vids of your lights?

Thank You Isaac, If anyone has any questions on potentially getting a custom build harness build or anything regarding light I would be more than happy to look into it. We build a ton of conversion harnesses for Nissans,BMW facelift, etc. Feel free to contact me.

I like sequential on Stangs I dont think its fitting on a Viper.. Would they be sequential when braking? I really wouldn't like that personally.. I believe someone makes a kit for the stang so the brakes act normally..
Good luck with your project, hope you get it to work...

I'm sure ZWORKS would love to be a supporting vendor if he sees some interest!!!
