How does the remaining factory warranty work if the 3 years has already passed? Was this car first registered in 2015?

My logical guess would be that they don’t type out each individual word of every listing they post as it’s probably mostly a template that uploads vehicle specific details.

I’m sure “remainder of factory warranty” applies to any car and if it’s already expired then no harm no foul.

Regarding the venom controller and my assumption that you are bringing this up based on common belief it voids warranty, I would say as inconsistent as FCA has been with warranty related things, one cannot assume anything... I know people who have arrow controllers that have had work done under warranty still so it’s not completely black and white.

It goes off of the sale date, not production date. So if the car was sold in say August of 2015 it would indeed still be under warranty. There were actually quite a few cars that sat for years without being titled so it's not impossible.

Also, a tuned pcm isn't going to void complete warranty, only risks the parts it affects, ie powertrain.. if your rear windshield shatters they aren't going to say, "oh that's because you put in a venom controller - SOL"

Valid point. Although this is what had been so troubling in regards to this. If they void one warranty claim for this why would they not void them all? I could see them voiding a warranty for HPT seeing that there are so many different tuners and tunes, literally endless combinations, but for the Venom Controller it is the exact same tune for everyone. How can they select which warranties they deny and which ones they accept??

I understand that but there aren't many people worried about basic repairs. Replacing a Viper engine out of pocket in an otherwise basically brand new car is not very desirable.

My 2014 TA has a Mopar extended warranty that I purchased that is good until 2022 or 60,000 miles. I got it thru Clay. I would think unless the warranted item needs to be replaced due to damage being caused directly from the venom controller then it should not be an issue. If you have a problem I’m sure you could just reinstall your factory controller and play dumb at the dealership.

I think (just my opinion of course) there is simply way too much gray area regarding these warranties... That being said, if your going to risk it with any upgrades, I think the venom controller being installed by viper exchange is the best bet...

By far one of the most reputable dealerships in the country and a PCM that dick winkles has been a part of himself that still keeps some safeguards present is probably a lot more favorable than just any random retune.

VE has been able to get people covered under warranty when it would appear that similar circumstances have been denied at other dealerships. Might have something to do with how big they are and the fact that they do pretty damn good work at their facility. They obviously have some good relationships with people that matter. Wouldn't surprise me if the car had a controller and still retained the warranty.

Very true - the mileage is stored in separate places, and if they don't match up, the assumption is that the controller was swapped out. I think a dealership has to re-program things so that both mileages match, and many won't do that. That said, it seems as if a bunch of people who were initially denied warranty for blown engines ended up getting the coverage. There was a ton of noise about that for a while, and all that noise abruptly went away - which tells me that FCA sorted it out and resolved the issue with everyone. Still, I wouldn't install anything that could cause problems these days. It's not just FCA that is cracking down on modifications, it's just about everyone. I'll wait until I have expended the warranty - it's just not worth it for me to risk it nowadays.

The TA I had was one of the ones that was covered under warranty during all the noise while with the prior owner. If you ask around the people are there, and with that is the precedent that they will cover blown motors from bearing issues with arrow controllers.

The problem with the warranty issue is yes, if your car is at Viper Exvhange and they are working on it with a Dodge rep that’s one thing. But like the other 99% of us who would have to bring their car to Mom and Pop local Dodge....not so clear cut.

Ha. I was the 1st owner of the car your talking about (DV400227). I bought it the first week of Sept 2014. Maybe the last owner got a factory extended warranty.? It did not have a Venom controller when I owned it. Or black seats.

That's not necessairally true. While that is the most common start, there is also an In-Service status that triggers the warranty period to start without the car being sold yet. Not saying that is the case here but it's not always as clear cut as Sale dates...
