View Full Version : Looking for Miller 10018 Clutch Alignment Tool

I realize this is a long shot, but does anyone have a Miller #10018A clutch alignment tool laying around that they'd be willing to let me borrow? The alignment tool I was going to use was for an LS1 T-56 application, which used a smaller pilot bearing than what is used in the Viper. Kinda hard to align a clutch when you don't have the right alignment tool...
Looks like I'm stuck until I get the right tool...not that I'm in any hurry to get back to working in a 95° garage.
Thanks for any help!

You could use tape to build up your tool until it fits in the hole snug. I have done this before when the hole was too large. It works! You did not get a plastic tool with the new clutch?

The Nth Moto clutch kit did not come with a plastic alignment tool - another member tried installing one with a plastic tool he had laying around, and he could not get it aligned sufficiently. According to their instructions, tolerances on this install are tight, so if it isn't aligned perfectly, the transmission will be very hard to get back in place. That's why I'm also not sure tape would provide sufficient rigidity, but it is a good thought. They recommend using an input shaft, or something close to it (which is essentially what the Miller tool is), but of course they don't provide one when you buy the clutch, likely because they expect you'll have it installed at a shop that would have the correct tools.
I'll likely just bite the bullet and buy the correct tool, knowing full well I'll probably only need it once.

Summit is an hour drive from you. The Autozone in Huber on Brandt Pike had a Dorman equivalent years ago. One for a Dodge Ram 3500, 26 spline will work for a Viper.

EDIT, just scrolled down and saw the rest of the thread, which wasn't here a few hours ago when I originally opened your thread and fell asleep. Miss Vipers, miss Dayton, good luck on your search.

Welp, went ahead and bit the bullet and just ordered one. This site had the best price, and they had a few in stock: https://www.moparessentialtools.com/item-detail.aspx?itemid=22050013&type=tools
Hopefully I'll have it later this week.

It’s a shame you have to put out that much money for a good one. For years I was E mailing people that were rebuilding or discussing their blown tranny’s just so I could offer to buy the input shaft knowing someday I would be in the spot as you. Never had any luck. So far I haven’t needed it, but that day will come.

Yeah...I had intended to use this Quarter Master clutch install tool from my LS1/T-56 Camaro:

It was a very well made tool, and only around $50. It was worth its weight in gold when I installed a carbon twin disk clutch in that car where the alignment needed to be spot on.
The spline count is exactly the same between the T-56 and the TR-6060 (26-splines), and the spline length was also good. Unfortunately, the part that bit me was the tip that goes into the pilot bearing - the LS1 Camaro I had used a much smaller ID pilot bearing than what is in the Viper. That's the only reason why it wouldn't work. I spent about 5 minutes searching for a solution, and the Miller tool was the first thing that came up. Sometimes you gotta pay to play - I prefer to do my own work to save some $$$ on labor, but there are times like these that makes you wonder whether it was worth it. I'll at least know it was done right. Maybe I'm just overly confident in my abilities, and this will all turn into a big disaster. Time will tell.

I have used Viper input shafts available to use as a clutch alignment tool.

Here are the correct tools. A Gen II T-56 input shaft measured at 19.00mm in diameter, which is 0.748in. Both prices from Summit Racing. Both shaft diameters are 1.125in, but the McLeod Racing tool fits tighter in the discs and the longer length means that it would be my choice if you decide to purchase one.
To clarify, Mantic rushed the packaging to get me the clutch, thinking I'd have installed it earlier than I did.
