Hi – first post from a New member.

I joined the Association on Sunday - as a UK member.
I have my Viper in Abu Dhabi, where I've been based for the last 10 years and am arranging to ship to UK in near future.
I’m based in Sidcup, Kent.

I’m looking for advice and guidance re importing to UK - I’ve read various Posts on the Forum which were very useful.

My understanding of the modifications required to comply with UK regulations is :

• Headlights to be realigned
• Indicators (side repeaters) required on front wings
• Rear fog light required with warning light/illuminated switch on dashboard

I’m looking for recommendations for companies/individuals to carry out the modifications and get the car through the UK IVA Test.

I’m not sure of its value and would appreciate any guidance on value for :
• Insurance purposes for Shipping
• for Customs and VAT - although I understand that I will not be liable for VAT or Customs

DETAILS of CAR
It's a 2006 SRT Convertible
VIN is 1B3JZ65Z26V101736
Red with Dual silver stripes
ACR suspension, exhausts and wheels were fitted in Dubai in 2012.

I purchased the Viper in June 2015 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and I was informed that it was imported in 2009.
Mileage was 36,500

I have a "Carfax" report which has its history in USA to 8 Aug 2008.
Was supplied through "Dodge Land of Columbia" and registered in Michigan 7 Sept 2006
Last information of its life in USA is that it was serviced at "Dodge Land of Columbia" on 8 Aug 2008

Before purchase I had a detailed inspection carried out, by a Specialist in Dubai that had serviced it twice, and it came back with a clean bill of health.
Mileage is now 38,700 - only done 2,200 miles in 3 years.

I've just had a service carried out at the Dodge dealer (Trading Enterprises Abu Dhabi) and there were no issues reported.

Thanks in advance for your help

Am looking forward to getting to meets in the summer, seeing your cars and introducing mine to you.

Hello Gary, many of us in the UK have shipped our cars and we have used a company called Kingstown Shipping.
I dealt with a chap called Mark Cowley
http://www.kingstown-shipping.co.uk/ Just checked their website and it looks like they don't don't ship from the Arab emirates,
These Guys do https://www.shipmycar.co.uk/2012/06/dubai-to-uk-car-shipping/

Our Club President does SVA Conversions on Vipers in a symmetric way so that body panels don't get drilled into and can also run led light strips for daytime running if required.
PM Viper Baz UK or drop him an email through the UK Region contact links.
https://driveviper.com/forums/members/98-VIPER-BAZ-UK

He knows more about what is required to get cars through legal compliance.
By the way I would not be far from you as Im at the top of the M23 Jcton 7 M25, Lots of good Supercar meets in the Essex area.

Cheers Mark

Hi Mark and thanks for your quick reply.

I'll contact shipmycar as they offer a full Shipping/Import/IVA service.
Will also contact Viper Baz for advice on the SVA conversions as I don't like the idea of panels being drilled for lights.

I did see a company called mycarimport.co.uk which also offers a full Shipping/Import/IVA service - will contact them also

Baz did the SVA AND Light conversion on my car, lets just say it was a lot cheaper than companies charged. ;)

See if you can get a price from them for Just shipping the car then another price for the SVA conversion ;)

I keep calling it SVA but its not called that now I think its called IVA?

Good man, more Vipers are needed in the UK :)

As Mark said, you don't need to drill the fenders for side repeaters, I used a set of these self adhesive LED strips https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/stick-on-amber-led-indicator-pair-leda9-160mm

edit:- Just noticed it says they are not available anymore, but I'm sure they will be available elsewhere. The same company also does LED fog lights though

32032

Can't help with the fog light as I don't have one, I think the previous owner removed it after the SVA/IVA test, also front sidelights can't be amber, so some modification will be needed. I've got a friendly MOT man so I manage to get away with a couple of these rules ;)

The Viper in question is an 06 so will not need an IVA .. IVA is for cars younger than 10 years old.
All you will need is a MOT so not as strict ..

I have carried out both SVA's and IVA's my 09 ACR was the last one I did in 2016

Rear Fog light
Side repeaters
while front side lights (Not amber and independent from indicators)
Non HID headlights unless water jets fitted . (may get away with this )
Re align beam on headlights
Emissions are a big thing now .

Thanks Viper Baz,

I'll send you a PM or email (what is best for you?) as I now have quotations for Total package (shipping, Customs, modifications, MOT, Registration and Road Tax)

I have quotations for shipping inc Customs and delivery so mods/test/reg/road tax to sort out if I don't opt for Total package.

My initial thoughts are to have mods done by someone such as you who is a Viper enthusiast

You said emissions are a big thing now - do you think I could have problems and how do we overcome them and any indication of cost (how long is a piece of string?!!)

Thanks

Gary
