View Full Version : If you changed the color of your plastic valve cover covers did you paint or wrap
Like the title says I would like to match the color of the plastic valve cover covers to the color of the cars body, but I'm not sure if I should paint or have them wrapped. I would like to hear what you guys or gals have done.

With the wrap were there any pealing issues because of heat? I had a Gunmetal GTS that I had GTS stripes wrapped on and there were no issues with heat, the company I had do the stripes would be the same company I would have do the covers. They do excellent work!
Your ACR is simply badass man, I wanted to do my calipers on my Gunmetal the same color as yours because that color combo is killer. If I had a little more dough I would buy that ACR from you, you did a great job with it!

are y'all using heat resistant paint or just normal paint that a body shop would use and it holds up just fine?

I appreciate the kind words! I used 3M’s gloss orange vinyl and had 0 issues with the vinyl melting/shrinking.
I absolutely love the contrast of Hyper Green agains Gunmetal Pearl. You should do it!

I sanded, used a high temp primer, normal paint, and a high temp clear. No issues with the paint bubbling or fading.

I got a new painted set from Prefix and spent a good bit of money on it. Then Dodge just had to issue that damn recall that came with a new valve cover, so I had a non-matching set.
So I just took them off completely.

Unfortunately the Gunmetal Viper is gone. But it was on my list of things to do.
I think I’m going to go the painted route, sand, primer, paint and then clear coat.

Being the current owner of this car, ill be having them painted. The wrap is just not up to my standard. You can tell it is not paint as it's not perfect around corners and other parts. I will say its about 75% ok. Hower, you will never get the same shine from vinyl as you would from paint.
No offense to the previous owner.

I may try (gasp) plastidiping mine this year. It seems like the perfect part for it - I can make it a nice gray color so it blends in better but still leaves the factory color underneath for originality later (if it ever matters).

I think that can also be the quality if the wrap company too. I had a high end company in Scottsdale, Az do my GTS stripes. I was told no matter what they would have wrinkles in them or wouldn't be perfectly straight etc. the were flawless. I did have one part start to peel due to engine heat by the hood vent but they replaced it for free and would for the lifetime of the car. But my worry is this is under the hood and because I track my car the heat might be just too much on these.

Jack, nice look. I'm assuming the wrap around your air box and tubes is to keep the heat out? do you notice a difference?

It definitely delays the IAT heat soak, delays yes, eliminates, no.

It looks professionally done. It came to $219 with shipping and sales tax. Here is a better picture

Currently at Prefix getting body color matched! This should have been an option for the 1 of 1 program!

Completely agree that it should have been part of the 1of1 program to option it out with body matching accent parts. I just had my brace, covers, sills, and caps paint matched to the copperhead color. I have black titanium bolts on order with orange washers, hoping that will look good!
