View Full Version : Can a battery "disconnect" be used on GEN II cars

On my other cars, I installed a battery disconnect switch (automatic disconnect if voltage drops below 9v with manual override).
Other than clocks and radio presets, nothing else is impacted on my older corvettes.
What bad things can happen when a GEN-II''s battery is disconnected for periods of 30 days or longer?

The car's ECU will lose memory and need to re-learn a number of parameters that may affect drive-ability. Perhaps more importantly you will lose readiness on many of the emissions parameters. It can take quite a bit of time and various drive cycles to get those parameters to reset. This may be a problem if you need to get emissions tested right after re-establishing power to the ECU (e.g. replacing a dead battery or reconnecting a battery). Ask me how I know.

There is some incorrect info followed by the correct info here...so, pay attention to the second post by "luc" as some have made this very mistake at the jumper terminal.
