I wouldn't be opposed to the Viper evolving to something like it. I know a lot would lose it. But, as long as it is a dominator why not.

What an absolutely gorgeous car. Sure, a different animal than the Viper, but nevertheless....would have loved to see it materialize.

Yes, a bad ass car, but not a Viper. Needs a name all it's own.

As others have stated, what a beautiful car! Too bad they can't build it now. It looks similar to the Corvette Daytona car.

And of course this ME-412 was built first.

I had no idea those cars were that fast! Screw Mercedes for killing it.

Yeah I saw this article on Reddit, and I had no idea the 'bad blood' behind it. Shame on Diamler. :(

Mercedes has never been known for performance....luxury maybe but they didn't have a performance reputation to lose. The styling on it is meh with the hard lines on the hood ala Chrysler Crossfire, but it is low and wide with a Ford GT kind of stance but more of a Konigsegg shape. Who knows, had they done 3-4 years of production at 300 cars/yr, it could have ended up like the Ford GT now, doubling in price and value in 6-7 years time.

A car being held back because its better than its big brother? That kind of stuff doesn't happen. The more I hear about the Daimler years, the more I dislike about Benz.

gmc held the Camaro and t/a back so as not to step on corvette, could produce this viper killer or beef up the v10 with hemi heads or 3 valves a cylinder, still lots of potential in that engine without turbos or chargers

Interesting read from that article was discussion that the ME412 used this "Chrysler Dual-Clutch Transmissions: Automated Manuals - 79REM and 62TEMtransmission":

Damn, now that I read the details, I'm impressed. Active aero, DCT designed in significant part by Chrysler and able to handle 850 Ft-Lb of torque, and carbon ceramic brakes.

Add some of these ingredients to the Gen V ACR!

Go ahead and build it, but it's no Viper.
(yes I realize the concept is a decade old)

I remember seeing that car at Pebble Beach. Very cool car. Rapper Ludacris bought one. It never went to production, and only two prototypes exist..

It will be sad if we find out years from now that it happened again. That was a decade ago and could still hang with the best of today.

That could never happen at Chrysler, I mean Dodge, I mean SRT! Oh, wait, Fiat owns the Viper, and Fiat also owns the Ferrari F10 Berlinetta and Fiat prohibited Viper from having 700hp! (Btw, I just heard this from a Dodge Dealer 3 days ago, who said he heard this from Ralph about 3 days earlier). Yes it is hearsay, but does make sense. Any idea how well the Gen V--even with recycled Gen II styling--would have sold with the same price and 700hp? And yes, I am aware of all of the "you cannot use the extra power" arguments, balance, etc.

Fiat held the Gen V back in terms of budget and power. The TA and even the other Gen Vs with exterior carbon fiber and aero carbon fiber are clawing back some sales now, but Fiat could have made things easier on SRT. Now with the Z06 in the mix things should get interesting... . It is great for the different manufacturers to push each other. SRT will need to decide if they are really serious about being in the market--I hope so! I love my Gen IV and hope to move to a newer Gen as soon as there is a compelling reason.

Your Dodge dealer is full of shit and incorrect.

Pick up this book and read it and it will answer a lot of questions.....

Really?

Yep, your dealer is misinformed. Sorry but I've heard a lot of BS from dealers and don't put much stock in it. As was said, read the book. Not hearsay, and does make sense.

Recycled styling? That's your opinion, clearly with a dash of axe to grind and a chip on your shoulder. Keep opinions like that to yourself please. Plenty of people I know don't like Gen IV styling, hopefully they don't rub it in your face the way you seem to enjoy rubbing your opinion in ours.

The answer to this has always been simple with just a bit of common sense. Ask yourself if Sergio would have approved the new Viper when he knew, going in, that it was faster than virtually any
production car around Nurburgring - that included Ferrari.

Recycled styling I do not agree with, I consider it an evolution of the Vipers classic curves.

The problem with FIAT saying no go to Viper is that FIAT can not extend that dictate to any other manufacturer. On the other hand Viper had a budget constraint as has all of Chrysler making a real problem for the Chrysler recovery project. The previous owners did a good job of killing engineering capacity by simply cancelling projects and laying off engineers. The most brillant thing Ford did was to fund their own recovery. How Mallory pulled that one off is beyond me. I know the facts of the history but how did he convince the $s guys to go along with him?
