Ralph Gilles' Team Viper introduces the '14 Viper TA, their answer to the Corvette ZR1 that took the record from the Gen IV ACR.

Prestigious record that made track enthusiasts take notice, myself being one of them, but the real achievement was the dialing in of the car's handling on track, and the maintaining of great road manners. Research and forum feedback from '13 SRT and GTS Gen V owners indicated that this was going to be the bulletproof track day car that many of us were looking for, and that it turned out to be.

Remembering and recognizing the huge successes of Team Viper. Thanks for 54,000 kms of joy and 4 fantastic track seasons!

While it no longer holds the record or is available for sale, it's legacy will surely be that it was a gorgeous exotic that was as capable and durable on the track as it was on the road.

This exact video is what coaxed me into leaving the world of M/// and Pcars and buy a Viper (and specifically the TA). Seems like yesterday.

Had not seen it but found it interesting that they put on a set of race slicks to see how much they could improve the lap times.

They really should do that with every test to marginalize any tire advantage/disadvantage and spotlight the capability of the car itself.

That wouldn't be meaningful because the specific OEM tire used largely determines other component specs properly matched to them on the car.

Example, racing tires put on a non-ACR for testing would overload its springs and brakes as opposed to an ACR-E.

OEM's need to make their best choices for performance, and buyers are free to make changes that they want, for better or worse.

People seem to forget or don't realize how fast of a track car even the base Viper is. On smaller tracks my '13 (before mods) got faster lap times than my ACR.
Before you get to the skill level to put that downforce to work, most will be faster in the bast (lighter, less drag) car if the tires were the same.
