Just finished up my first Road trip in the ACR to Scottsdale for the auctions and hang out with a couple of mates.

The car:

The ACR has almost every modern amenity you can ask for, great visibility as that wing is higher than the line of sight from the mirror and the trunk is large enough to carry a Tumi carry on case and a large Tumi duffle along with jackets etc on the flat portion.

Obviously it’s not the most comfortable car in the world for a road trip but once I got into AZ the roads are SO much smoother there it was absolutely fine. A far cry from the carpool lane here in LA which literally makes you bounce out of your seat at times!

With the engine mods I have (headers, exhaust and PCM) there is drone above 80mph but it’s not intolerable thankfully. I didn’t really stretch its legs much but in Third and fourth gear at WOT it sounds like a pure race car and is unbelievable!

Only real complaint is the tiny gas tank! I am fairly certain I must have the record for the largest fill up: after Coachella there’s a town called Indio and after that there’s no gas stations for I think 80 miles or something stupid. It was at least 50 for sure and I haven’t been to ANY part of the World before where that’s been the case! After passing Indio with around 1/4 of a tank showing and then driving with the gas gauge light on empty for 30 miles I was shocked that I made it to a gas station and here’s the fill up amount. If memory serves me correctly it’s advertised as having a 16 gallon tank and that definitely includes the fuel reserve!

Really nice chap wanted to take a pic of the Viper and discuss the effects of aero on Highway speeds! He loved the Viper and off with a warning! His dodge was slick!

Auction results:

Everything was going for retail numbers or more - it was insane and not a deal to be had. Can't say i'm not pleased about the Viper's results but 2 cars are hardly indicative of the whole market. I wouldn't let mine go cheap that's for sure.

Great pics. I drove from San Diego to EL Centro years ago in a rental Chevy! No comparison!!

Great write Up! I love reading about Viper road trips and adventures. Though you're LA residency is showing, not having been anywhere where it's more than 50 miles between gas stations. Come on up to Canada if you want to experience true fuel range anxiety! And we all better hope that we don't get transferred to this place in Australia. (Approx 350 miles to the next gas station)

Nice pics. Had not seen a Medusa ACR-E before. Neat looking but seems contrary to its designed purpose without the rigidity of the roof tying the chassis structure together.

Looks like great fun on your road trip. For some reason, I thought you were going to sell your car.

Great pics! Love the color of your ACR. That ACR targa is amazing!!
And I second TA Two Oh's comment about range anxiety. You should definitely come up for a visit and a cruise through the Canadian Rockies!

Great post! Looks like you had some fun in Scottsdale.
And you went 99 miles from Indio to Blythe for that gas! You passed right by Chuckwalla Raceway about halfway in between, you shoulda stopped there for some 100 octane and did a few laps! ;)

Here is another. I tried getting it for mine before the plant even started the build. It’s a shame they were discontinued early.

hard to tell from the pic, but is the top kept in the rear trunk or do u absolutely make sure there is no chance for rain when u take it out.

Sweet color and fun trip! I guess road trips out there are different that the north east. We have very limited smooth roads here!

Awesome car and awesome pics. My OCD says you need to move that red tow hook in the front to the other side so it lines up with the red stripe. Ha! Ha!
