Side Sill Exhaust Outlet Trim Ring

The early G5's had a chrome looking sill exhaust outlet, later cars changed, the outlet was black. Is the black a powder coat or is it a black ceramic. What year did the change take place?

My 15 still has the chrome looking surround as does the 16 on Viper Exchange website. So it has to be 17 I guess??

I just pulled mine out and deciding on ceramic or power coat.

Jack, I had my bezel and exhaust tip ceramic coated. It looks great IMO.

The black on the ACR sill is just paint. It’s actually cheap too compared to regular Viper paint.

I use A Brillo sponge on mine, cleans it fast and easy.

My 16 I have cooked the paint off at the track at least twice this season. Upside just plane out hi temp engine paint works just fine.

Nix on the high temp grill paint. i just tried it today, it does not stick, i had to remove what did stick and sanded it with 150 grit. It did adhere better, however, it is not durable, it would not last long.

I did a little research and it seems most people have good luck with the "VHT flame-proof". They have a three part (primer/paint/clear). You cure it in the oven. I just ordered it, isn't that what winter down time is for. If I would have thought it out, I would have included the bezels with the headers I just had black ceramic coated.

I used some copper pads to clean mine. Cleans it right up. I tried an SOS pad but that didn’t work as well.

Be careful when you remove these rings. The 3 screws that hold them in seize in their holes and break easily. I was going to offer powder coating these rings as a service with core exchange, but too many will be damaged with screws broken off in the mounting holes.

Just to clarify: Dodge makes the black exhaust surround ports. I believe that these came on the Carbon Edition GTS Cars (and possibly other models). I added these to my '14 Yellow/Black stripes GTS and they look great!

Agree with BJG32, the parts are HORRIBLE quality. Very cheap construction and screws, so be careful not to break them. We had to re-thread one screw hole since it came stripped. I have not had any flaking, etc. of the replacement surrounds, but my car has not seen hard track duty, etc. so it may be an apples vs. oranges comparison.

I was just hoping the black stains on the bottom of the bezel would expand to cover the whole thing. No luck yet, but I'll keep giving it time. I have yet to specifically clean the bezel, whatever survives the car wash, stays.

I used the VHT spray paint. I think it was from O'Reily's.

We have some inventory of both black and silver. I will check to see what process was used on the factory black bezels. It was not the paint that they used on the rocker panels.

I bought the primer, black and the clear. The clear did not come out to my liking, i am going to spray it again with the black. I will not use the clear on the second ring.The instructions say that you have to do three heat cycles in the oven to cure the paint. This is not just a paint, it is a ceramic based product.
