Do people in the USA ever buy cars from Canada

I am going to be selling my 04 viper come april/may. I am curious if people in the USA bother to buy cars from Canada? Do you guys get taxed to death if you buy a car in canada? Should I even bother advertising it in the USA?

For the cars with a warranty, it would not make sense if that's is important. I am curious too. Are there import taxes like the ones you guys suffer with your fascist regime up in Maple leaf land?

I owned a Canada car years ago. I bought it off the guy that brought it here.

Unless it's a very desirable color combination, mileage, etc.. personally, I would pass just because of the extra hassle.

Biggest issue with older cars is that the cars register in Kilometers. It used to be in some States, even though the car was converted over to Miles ( and at a recognized facility) ,they would still require a listing of mileage unknown. That killed the value right off the bat. New cars it is nothing more than a push of a button, but if any warranty is left it will not transfer to the US or vice versa to Canada.

My car is an original USA viper. So the speedometer is in miles. But it sounds like it may not be worth me trying to sell it to an American.

It is worth it. American dealers are buying our used vehicles and shipping them South. I shopped my Gen 3 to US dealers setup in Canada, prices varied wildly. Ended up getting a better deal when trading on my Gen 5.

I have imported two cars from the US to Canada, no duty, no import taxes. Our federal goods and services tax has to be paid, its paid on all vehicle purchases except private party sales. There is a 100$ excise tax that must be paid if the vehicle has a/c, and within 30 day (I don’t recall the exact time frame) a provincial inspection (visual inspection of brakes, frame, mechanical) must be completed as well as a federal inspection (ensure daytime running lights are installed, French/English labels, a speed that displays Metric and can display in both metric and imperial).

It’s pretty easy and cheap.

The expensive way to do it is to hire a broker.

US dealers have sent “buyers” up to Canada. They buyers are working with Canadian dealers and buying our trade ins. In some cases these buyers have setup shop in a dealership and are just buying vehicles w/o having to trade in. As an example, Davis GMC was doing this, two guys I know sold their trucks to US buyers.

It isn’t like they are hiding it :)

Interesting, i will see if i can source this. It would be great to sell my car during the winter and not wait till the snow melts. I figure a USA buyer is my only chance of that. Thanks!

In 2016 340k used cars where imported into the US from Canada, 2017 forecast is similar. Exchange rate is the driver, and $0.85 US is the benchmark spurring demand or contraction.

If priced attractively, you'll find a US buyer.

I imported my first car from Canada this year. Less than 10 mins at the boarder station and I was done. Lotta stress leading up to it as it was nearly 20hrs each way but after doing it once, i’d do it again. The exchange rate was nice!

If it is a original US Car, It was built for the US and there is no fees to go back. I just sold my First Edition Coupe and SRT 10 Truck and both went back to the US. It was painless at the border for the new owner

Thanks for the info guys. I will likely wait till april and try 1-2 months to sell it locally. If nobody buys it, I will post it in the usa
