I just heard abt the main bearing issue and last month I bought a ‘16..

Just want to make sure I’m on top of things..

What should the oil pressure be like after warmup?

Thanks!

Edit:

Also how many quarts should I run? Need to do an oil change soon!

Mine is between 38-50 depending on temperature at idle after warmup. M1 5W-50.

Edit: Mine is 44-45psi at idle at 194 degree oil temp.

Mine around 38 , M1 0W-40

Small number of early vipers had an issue.. not so much for MY16.

Let oil drain for 10 minutes or more when you change it. Use only an SRT filter designed especially for the Viper and available form several vendors on here (or your dealer can order it as they likely don't stock it unless they do a lot of Viper work). If tracking the car use 15w-50, otherwise the 0w-40 factory weight is fine. I prefer Mobil 1 over the Penzoil. After replacing oil filter engine should take almost exactly 11 quarts of oil.

Learn how to check your oil in the correct way. Run engine, shut off, check oil level after about 2 minutes. Do not check cold the next morning, it will likely show higher than it really is. The dip stick should be inserted so that you can read "Engine" on the top of the yellow loop from the front of the car.

With the stock 0w-40 on the streets, I'm at around 38PSI at idle.
On track, after a session, I'm at 26PSI idle, but the oil runs hotter as well, which explains the difference.

On my stock car, with the Pennzoil 0W 40, on a hot summer day at a traffic light, I've seen pressure 28-30, but most of the time, idle pressure is low 30s. 13,000 miles on the car.

On track whilst driving on a circuit my pressure will fluctuate between 56-70(the lower figure on heavy braking or high speed corners) Once I come in I will almost never drop below 35 no matter what temps. I only run Motul 300V 15-50w.

off topic question stradman,
how does the warranty work in the uk? do they give you one or is it like bringing a US car to canada where you just loose it?

Thanks guys! What’s the best viper specific filter I can get?

Any specific vendor here that makes it easy ordering the oil and filter? Maybe good website? Thanks

Stay with the factory filter. It was designed specifically for the viper. I have been buying mine through Woodhouse.

Cant remember where the 0w40 ran at once warmed up...but it was in the 25 - 50 psi range. With 15w50, it was min 50 at warm idle.

Wally World Mobil One 0w-40 in five quart containers and Viper specific oil filter from Amazon. It’s really one of the cheapest and easiest cars to change.
