Car starts/runs/idles just fine.

If you let the clutch out...it just barely tries to move....and then just goes thump thump.

This is what it looks like underneath

Trans or rear......trans or rear.....

Since it was in gear....I'm thinking the pinion in the rear might have stripped :(

Maybe if you turned the music off you / WE might be able to listen to what is actually going on! Is there any noise at the flywheel? With the engine off put the car in gear and see if when you turn a rear wheel the drive shaft moves!

Any noises from inside the rear Diff?

The car makes no sound in this video. My expectation with it in gear is then when I turn the wheels....the driveshaft will turn too, which it does not since that is the video I took....car in gear....turning wheels....

Ok Got it, Did you try turning both wheels?

Drain the diff oil and see if any bits of metal fall out.

Hmmm..... Differentials don't strip sitting in the garage?
What happened the last time you drove it? Did you drive it home? Coast home?

I drove it up the driveway...it was making a small noise (basically for all 5 miles I owned it)....that 'might' have been flat spots so I was going to give it some road miles....didn't make it out of the drive....let it roll back into the garage and it has sat there eversince.

Only makes a sound when I attempt to move it (aka when the clutch lets out) and it goes no where

I know I am doing a terrible job of explaining...in the car before I got it on the lift I would have bet money that I broke a universal and the driveshaft was just spinning around hitting the underside of the car. That's what it sounds like

Tom Petty is cool, however ineffective it makes the vid.

Did you try starting in second gear or another gear maybe first gear is not fully engaged? Shift linkage issue?

I did not try this. I will.

If you have the car in gear with the engine off/not running the driveshaft will not turn by spinning a tire and wheel.
It should be locked in place by the transmission/engine.

The way that you are spinning the wheel I'd say something in the rear end center section is broken.
Both half shafts look like they are spinning the same direction so the clutches are working in the carrier, so it's probably pinion gear.

I clicked on the video and then came many videos of what likely caused your problem. :drive: Sorry had to say it, it’s likely been hammered hard before you got it. Time for a new rear end

Yes I am hard on cars and have a strange love of burnouts. Haven't had a chance with this car yet though because I just put in a new driveway so no driveway fun till spring....and now...until I fix this car too.

Additional trouble shooting this morning...it's raining heavy in MD today so I won't get anything else done....but looking more like the rear to me.

Strange! This is the one you were trying to get out of Florida before the Hurricane right?

Yeah. I got it out of FL the day before the hurricane hit. Drove it from the shipper drop off to my house without issue (about 2-3 miles). Went to drive it the following weeekend and it started making a 'thump thump' rhythmic noise so I only drove 1-2 miles, heard it, turned around and parked it. Looked it over externally and couldn't find anything so thought maybe it was flat spots (older tires, low miles on them)....drove it up my driveway a couple weeks later and it broke before I got to the top. I haven't been over 3k RPM or 45 mph with the car yet. So it must be something that was stressed/weakened previously. Not a big deal other than now I have to fix it and not enjoy car (which has a super charger) during peak boost season ;).
