Need a replacement NEW passenger side Headlight

Hey gang,
The body shop has been looking for two weeks and having no luck finding a replacement passenger side headlight. I figured with all of the combined knowledge here, someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

Thank you but all he had was the European after market version which is slightly different than the American version. This part is going to be crazy hard to find.

They generally aren't. A lot of people will pick up parts to keep handy for times just like this so they have a replacement for the time something happens or when someone else needs help.

I've started to collect parts myself as finances allow.

I would consider used, I just preferred new so I did not have to fix anything on it. It got broken and the rest of the Viper is in pristine condition, thus why I was trying for new.

First - Dave normally charges VERY reasonable rates for parts he has spares of that he can afford to let go of to help someone out with.

Second - If you had a new set of headlights that you've been storing for ever for that just in case moment. Are you telling me you wouldn't want to know the market value of them before selling them? I've seen Dave get a real response of, that part is selling for $1000. Just for him to reply to that and say, good to know, how about $750 to help out?

Most of the people I see on these boards are the same way. If they have a part you need they will normally help you out if you are polite and don't expect them to just give something away at their cost.

Or is the outrage from those other profits due in an upcoming meltdown?

+1...AND the supply of Vodka and other interesting Spirits he packs along with whatever you buy from him. I have yet to purchase a Viper part from ANYONE that ships booze as packing material. Your brainless and childless throwbacks are getting old pal. If you want to sell parts then come out and give a price you're willing to sell them for like others do. Not ask what everyone is willing to pay. We are willing to pay what you're asking. When you leave an open ended response like that you get one in return.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I’m trying to find a headlamp assembly.
I think this is my first post too. So, quick intro/hello in case I haven’t done one prior. From TN. Long term car and Viper fanatic. Bought a GTS back in 2019 and at the end of 2020, an idiot pulled right through a stop sign and totaled my car... Ugh. Anyways I’ve got a, new to me, 1996 with 75,000 miles. It needs some resto work and amidst the list of parts is a replacement for a badly cracked passenger headlamp assembly. I’ve tried Larry, Scharf, X2, and the other typical parts vendors with no luck. If anyone knows someone who has a good used passenger one or even a pair, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Jake

I think they are the same, but not 100%. I will have to do some digging; or maybe one of the more knowledgeable guys can chime in. I just don’t want to have to drive around with a cracked headlamp. So, I’m hoping they’re all the same or that will limit my window even more for a seemingly unobtainable part.

Beyond the $4,500 set on Facebook, I haven’t been able to find any others. If you know of any others, a website or link would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been looking and maybe haven’t checked the right places because I only see the FB set. I understand these things being just over $1k, but I don’t think I can spend well over 10% of what I paid for the car on headlamps (especially when I only need the one). I know it’s ironic to buy a luxury item and then complain about it being expensive, but just trying to maintain some type of budget. Haha. Thanks again all.

It will be interesting to see how insurance companies respond to this. A few years ago the near $20k cost for an OEM replacement hood would get your car totalled. Headlights were still available for $600 then. Mopar recently liquidated their remaining hood inventory at prices as low as sub-$2k. I bought one as a spare when that happened.

Fast forward to headlights. If you get in a small accident and need a bumper cover and a headlight, which technically is way below the 70% of value total mark, are they going to total the car due to lack of availability of a $600 headlight?

I’m hoping 3D printing eventually steps up on a “whatever you need from whatever type of plastic” scale in the near future. I.E. disassemble headlamp assembly and send to a company that has a computer scan and print exact replicas. If that was semi-affordable, it would breath life into so many limited production cars out there. Fingers optimistically (and somewhat delusionally) crossed.

Just like the Gen 1/2 Vipers are finding some parts scarcity so are H1s which is my other toy. Specifically the powered rear view mirrors came up on the Hummer forums. AM General quit making them and there was a thread where people were discussing a source from China. When you click on the link the mirror is at the top of the page but the link within the mirror ad I believe is the manufacturer. The Trading Company.

Not sure how they managed to copy the mirror and don't really care, but the caveat would be if they say they can make the headlights, who is going to send theirs to them to copy. There is probably also trademark BS but I'm pretty sure they don't care in China. Someone contact these people.

That is a vehicle I wouldn't have guessed would ever have parts scarcity issues. I suppose the parts shared with the military vehicle are plentiful but the civilian only parts are scarce?

That would be one way to capture that. There are way more differences between the Hummer and Humvee than most people are aware of, with the outside mirrors being one item on a very long list.

Interestingly, the Chinese have cloned the entire H1. That may be the source of the mirrors.

So since the Chinese have zero regard for American trademarks and copyrights, they remain the best hope for those looking to have Viper parts cloned.
