Do you still own or have you owned a Viper Truck? I'm thinking about getting a used one as a driver. I'm lucky to drive my Viper twice a month. I usually need my truck. The SRT 10 seems like it'd be more fun to drive than any other truck, and allow me to throw stuff in the bed. Your thoughts will be appreciated to help sell this idea to my wife.

Are you looking at a Quad Cab or regular? I have a QC, but honestly I don't drive it much since I dd my SRT Jeep. It is a cool truck and gets looks whenever I take it out and when I purchased it I only had two seater cars. They are not blazing fast, but for a truck they are pretty quick. The gas mileage is horrible (at least on the QC) and parts are expensive. Common issues are oil cooler lines leaking, power steering lines leaking, and weak transmissions on the QC.

Never owned one, but my friend Steve has had two regular cabs. I would have to disagree with the Ice, they're WAY fast. Steve took me out in his, and damn! That being said, the auto in the QC is the same one I had in my 04 Ram Dually Cummins. Very reliable, I had not one transmission issue in the 70,000 miles I owned it.
As stated above, the truck is a standard Gen 3 drivetrain, and has all the regular Gen 3/Viper issues.

I want the 2 door, not the quad. I'm thinking of it as a big block Ranchero / El Camino. I also like the manual transmission just for fun. I've never owned a gen 3. I've owned a Gen 2 and a Gen 5. Are the leaks permanently fixable or is it something most choose to live with?

Oil cooler lines are the same as on your and my Gen 5, mine started leaking last year and still seep even after two fixes. Check yours, I bet they're leaking. Gen 3 lines will do so as well. PS lines - yes fixable as well. Overall pretty reliable trucks.

I had three, and loved them all (bad gas mileage and all). However, parts are getting pretty scarce right now. The biggest concern would be the PCM. Dodge doesn't make them anymore. However, Dan Craigen may be able to still repair those that have issues.

I bought one new and ended doing heads/cam build on it. It was quick and a blast to drive. I do miss it a little bit.

It's a 12-13 sec 1/4 mile truck, I guess it's pretty quick for the size. My transmission has been rebuilt twice (76K current miles) and if you look on the truck forums a few guys have converted to 6 speeds in the QCs to remove the headaches, it's a non issue for you though since you're looking at a regular cab.

There are a few vendors who sell the lines needed for the oil/power steering lines. Enjoy the search.

I purchased a Black Regular Cab/6 Speed Brand New back in '04. Out of all my trucks ('94 Lightning; '99 Lightning; '91 GMC Syclone; '04 SRT Ram), this was not the fastest, but it was my favorite.

Big, roomy, comfy, and just plain fun to drive with the manual trans.

In '04 they used 4.11 gears, which IMO were waaay too Tall. So my first mod was 4.56's, which Dodge made standard in '05, so they knew it too.

Otherwise, I did a Tuned PCM from Dan Cragin and Full exhaust (Headers/HiFlo's/Magnaflow)

With the above mods, truck went 12.60 @ 111mph, and still had more in it.

Never had a problem with the stock clutch slipping, even when towing my GMC Syclone a couple of times.

I traded the truck on '07 when I purchased my first Viper. Wish I could have kept both, but you know how that goes...

No problems in the time I owned it. Worst part was it could be pretty hard on gas mileage if driven locally.

I'd love to have one again, but I just don't have any real use for a truck.

What tires were you using? Those are great numbers.

I had one sold it quickly the automatics in the QC and the weight seem to make them slow ,another option are the new rams ,I bought a 2017 it seems faster than the viper truck.

My 2016 Ram with the 5.7 and 8 speed is fast. But - the Ram Viper truck was quicker the 1/4 mile than my stock 07 SRT8 Charger, and that car was faster than my current Ram. So, it's all relative.

But I've never felt my current Ram to be lacking in power, at least for my purposes of daily driving.

I own a 2005 Ram SRT10 Quad cab. Silver and over 100k miles. Bought it back in 2010.
I converted it to a T56 and completely changed the truck. Its amazing now.
Lowered with Tonys 2/5" kit and urethane bushings all the way around.
Billyboat longtubes, BBK Throttle body, Demon coils and a K&N intake. Custom Acura TL Bi-level xenon projectors mounted in the stock headlights...

Makes a wonderful daily driver. Fun to drive, fast for a truck, handles on rails, I can tow my trailer and haul 5 people. Most versatile vehicle ever made IMO. 4.56 rear end and with the T56 the truck really comes alive.

BUY ONE!

Funny, put 110K on Viper, is there such a thing? Shows really how durable these engines are.

Three times my truck has been regularly driven on 2 quarts of oil... THREE TIMES! My truck consumes some types of oil and unless I check the oil every month I get into that problem. The first time I tried royal purple whenever i would come to a stop the oil pressure dropped to zero and i get an engine light... then it would come back on once the truck rocked back.... essentially the little oil that was in the oil pan would slosh around and register as no oil pressure. This has happened 3 times in the last 30k miles. When i would drain the oil only 2 quarts would come out.

Truck also doesn't like Mobil 1 or Amzoil either. Or anything for that matter. No leaks either... Its weird. Great compression and pulls like crazy. Hell just the other day i checked the oil and it was 5 quarts low....

Don't know why or how to fix it. Truck runs great otherwise. Experience has taught me that these engines are beyond stout. I had a coolant problem and had to drive it 1 mile at a time for about 4 miles with ZERO coolant..... long story... but truck has absolutely no issues. It really is an amazing design.

That's a good story. I think the oil pan design is different in the trucks, which gives a little more leeway if oil is low.

But think about it - if you have 30,000 + miles on a Viper, it's high mileage! Of course, we're talking pre-Gen 5 here...uh oh, don't want to go there...!!

I have a regular cab with 4000 miles on a forged motor built by SPT that I will be selling.

I drove my Viper today to look at an 05 SRT 10 truck. The seller wouldn't let me drive it unless I agreed on a price and signed the "paperwork". I sat in it and started it. At idle it sounded like a Viper. The shifter felt odd. It felt like a truck shifter. I was hoping to drive the truck while the car was fresh in my memory. I broke the news to my wife this afternoon. She rolled her eyes. Details to follow. Thanks for all the input.

A guy on the Viper Truck Forum claims to have 300K miles on his QC.

I had ruled out the 04's because or the 4:10 rear end. I've also discovered there aren't many trucks to choose from where I live. I'm going to drive an 04 with headers this week. If I don't ever plan to drag race the truck, are the 4:10's acceptable? I'm thinking it my be like the old Vipers with 3:08's. 3:08's weren't ideal but the car was still fun to drive.
