Going to NVE 3 in Vegas and have never bought track insurance. Is it available at the track? Must I buy it thru my carrier? Does it cover another Viper hitting me on the track if he has no track insurance?
Any information would be helpful.

If you do a search you will find a few threads covering this. There are dedicated companies that do track insurance. There is actually a member here that has a company that does track insurance. I can't remember his name but I would certainly contact him with any questions and to purchase. If you search threads you will see him mentioned in a few of the threads.

be careful about inquiring with your current provider. If they get any hint that youre tracking it they may cancel you

As was mentioned....DO NOT contact your current Insurance Company and ask any questions, they may
cancel you. Now, most seem to use Lockton Affinity for HPDE. (I do as well). You need though to check on
there because typically they only cover HPDE events where some form of instruction is taking place (vs a weekend
some club may have rented the track). Never-the-less, their site is pretty easy to use for your answers.
I believe you are covered no matter what happens, short of a UFO landing on your car. (Also covers the car if
you do have an instructor driving it while you are in it). GOOD LUCK!

Note that there is a distinction between property damage insurance and liability insurance.

I use Steve as well - easy to work with and fairly reasonable on price.
The VOA insurance is to cover the club's potential exposure if a member has an accident but it does not cover the members' individual automobiles.

Nor does it cover a HPDE courses your region puts on, you will have to get additional insurance for your region's activities at the event. We tried and the cost from Steve to cover the event was to expensive along with the track rental, safety crew and all other items that were required.

Lockton, will cover an event however the event organizers must set up the event and meet certain criteria first before they will insure the event. You may inquire with VOA and see if they can contact Lockton to get approved for the event.

Spot-on.... Somewhere I though I was seeing that if there was some form of classroom/instruction taking place, that
was one of the key items. (Will also say it makes a nice difference if you are affiliated with some of the major car
venues where they offer a 10% discount.... that in-itself becomes an easy $60+ or much more if you are sporting
an ACR)

To answer a previous question, yes the club has a general insurance policy (during all of our activities). This policy requires a rider to be taken out to get expanded coverage for higher risk activities (like HPDE and some cruises/parties), which we do. All in the all the insurance protects us (and also of course fulfills obligations many venues have) in the event that we cause damage to their property, injure one of their people, etc... It does not cover damage to your car or your own medical expenses (you're own insurance would cover that piece). The trick, and very much on point as several of you are discussing, track events aren't covered by your insurance to protect you or your car - so getting track insurance specific to that days event will cover you in case you have an incident. I know it's a good buck, and frankly can be managed based on how you intend to drive - if at your limits or pushing hard, then it may make more sense to get insurance. But if you're doing driving at 85% or just taking it easy, it's fairly safe as we're not competing or doing wheel to wheel (but of course you can always have a mechanical failure at any speed - like a tire blow).
Anyway, it's a good discussion. I do have experiences in this realm and have seen some people wreck who had track insurance and it did pay off (and many experiences where they didn't have special insurance and had to eat the cost of repairs....). But one of the best ways to protect yourself is to drive conservatively. It's one of the reasons we don't do trophies, we want people to drive to truly enjoy the car - and have no pressure tied to competition, heightened risk, or peer pressure.
People are going to enjoy the track day. We're doing much of what we did before to give people as MUCH track time as they want. And this around we're doing a double module of road course, and then 2 hour sessions on the oval and on the autocross. It's funny at the last NVE, everyone rushed in the morning and tried to get ont he road course, but by 2:30pm, people were exhausted. So definitely pace yourself, you have all day and will literally spend hours driving that day if you want (and of course should consider the car - as while it's designed well for these purposes, it needs a breather and things like tires and brakes do become a bigger factor if you're doing many sessions).
We're gonna have a good time. And we rented LVMS for 2 days to ensure that people didn't feel crowded. We probably could have done it all in one day as that venue is massive, but we all know how much Vipers love the track - and we want people to be relaxed. They've also remodeled LVMS, I actually could not believe how well invested it was, it's is THE best track we may ever do for an NVE. Truly convenient for us and top notch!

Just to add to Alex's great input, just because you are driving at you 80-85%, does not mean someone else on the track is driving at or under their capabilities. I have heard where a where a driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed through an open field and nailed a car that was driving within their capability. Track insurance is a good thing to get , not only for your mistakes but for others.

This. Or someone in front of you on the track blows their engine (mechanical failure), spills oil on the track and you slide hit a wall and/or another car(s) on the track. I've seen at least one Ricky Bobby during HPDE events. But this is a controlled event, no competition and is usually well monitored and well run. It's going to be fun so enjoy it, if buying track insurance gives peace of mind, it's cheap insurance.
