View Full Version : Speculation on Gen V ACR

My prediction for the ACR:
I think that we will see a HP bump to 700 hp. The upcoming Hellcat Hemi is rumored to be a supercharged 6.2L. I think it will have direct injection. Direct injection is now common technology and I think SRT likely has access to some people with very good knowledge in this area at sister companies and suppliers. SRT will probably adapt the pistons and rods from this engine along with the direct injection components (fuel pumps and injectors) to the Viper engine and change the bore size if necessary (as they did when they brought out the 6.1L Hemi).
Direct injection will allow for much better control of the combustion process and will allow for changes to the cam and an increase in compression ratio. This would also require a new head and intake, which means they will probably take the opportunity to increase air flow as they no longer have to worry about keeping the fuel particles in suspension in the intake track. Combine this with new headers and 700 hp is easy and will likely have better emissions and fuel economy to boot.
Add big aero, like on the Gen IV ACR, some Sport Cup tires or the Pirelli equivalent, adjustable coil-overs, TA brakes, and a hardcore package that takes out another 30 pounds for no AC and sound system. I think you then have a car capable of equalling the ACRX time at the Nurburgring and setting a new lap record at LS by several seconds.
I think all of this could be done for not much of a cost increase over the current car. The engine upgrade to direct injection probably has to be done sooner or later anyway, just for emissions in the future. I think this is a very reasonable way to create an ACR that will rival anything else in the world when it comes to track times. The engine improvements would quickly be rolled out to the rest of the Viper line to amortize the costs.
No need for anything more fancy and costly when this would get the job done in a compelling fashion.

Reconfiguring a motor and getting it certified will cost millions on its own, not counting the cost to engineer it, I just can't see this happening right now IMO. BUT that would be awesome if we get surprised ;-)

More aggressive Aero, more CF, weight reductions, maybe DCT? I think that is about it.
As mark said, HP bump ain't cheap.

Like the sound of that!
I have the bells & whistles in the GTS & honestly don't use them anyway. Radio gets rid of the sound of the car so I mute it, don't have a clue on how to use u connect and I haven't used the cup holder one single time nor do I intend to. If taking out systems reduces weight and adds speed, I say go for it, for the ACR model. Still want comfortable seats and for it to be street legal like the out going model though.
Direct injection is an interesting suggestion. I would also add a suggestion with respect to exhaust note. It needs to be meaner. It's decent for stock but lots of guys had to butcher open a brand new six figure toy to add Corsa, Headers, etc. would be cool if SRT contracted with companies such as Belanger and Corsa to make those items options. They usually get added anyway. Just a thought.
In addition to aero fronts on the splitter I also want to see an aggressive wing on the back. Loved that GT Stryker green prototype it was bad ass.

I think, much like the Gen IV ACR, we will see mainly suspension, more aggressive aero, and very mild weight reduction, in conjunction with a sub 100 treadwear street/track type of tire. My main interest is if they will redesign the blemish that is the front fascia to be more aggressive on an otherwise very stylish and nice looking car.

I hope it is a much leaner version. Scrap anything that isn't performance enhancing. This should be nothing more than an ACRX with a Vin. Everything else can be added per order. I dont see SRT doing anything with the motor, too small of a run to absorb the recert expense. Put some sticky tires on it with some reworked body panels and some aero, active or not. Make it as light as possible, CC brakes as an option and keep it under $140,000.

I'm going to say similar to the TA but with the following changes: slightly different hood or an ACR specific paint scheme, KW's like old ACR, more aggressive aero, hopefully CCB like the new Brembo kit, a more extreme tire from Perelli, lap timer included, optional stereo delete. No engine or transmission change other than a possible gearing revision.

The ACR moniker has never been about more power. The ACR GTS, ACR neon, the neon SRT-4 ACR, and the Gen IV ACR all were about rims, tires, suspension, and now aero too. I believe they will not stray from this. It also doesn't make sense to have two different engines available, so they need to stick with one. They aren't ready to change up the current one because it hasn't had time to pay back yet. I think we will see a higher horsepower Viper in the future on this same body style, but not for a bit.
I'm with you, though. Direct injection would be nice!

The only way that you'll see a bump in power in the ACR will be if they bump it to say 710+HP and drop it in the rest of the cars as well.
If we see a "refresh" in 2015 (which means 2016 models), thats where you'd see it. but i wouldn't put my hopes on that, honestly.

I agree with Greg on his points. It'll heighten performance by bumping what's there with aero, suspension, etc...
I'm almost certain we wouldn't see an entirely new engine. Huge $$.

I actually believe we will see the offspring of this mixed with a TA, I think it will fall right in the middle. Thankfully, this model is all about performance, the ACR needs to exist on the ragged edge of street legal. Can somebody answer why headers and high flow exhausts aren't available from the factory?

I just read the answer to that last night in "SRT Viper - America's Supercar Returns." It seems longer headers give them too much trouble getting the engine to pass emissions.

If you can't go inside the motor for more... you can always get up on it!

Might be the most aggressive looking thing I've ever seen!

I think if they matched the back end and spoiler and then just add fender flares to the front with the front aero, you have a win. The Gen V would look even better if the back end was slightly wider than the front. It seems almost opposite on the current car.

Please no. I have tracked a Viper with that exact setup. Worthless on a road course.

Ya, but just think about all of the bench races you can win!!! Bragging rights! Who cares if the car is actually slower around a road course? I kid, I kid ;)

All the new ACR needs is the big aero like that's on the current ACR. Give it the same KW V3 2 way adjustable coilovers, and 15 inch front steel rotors with 6 piston caliper brakes..

Sport Cup tires or the Pirelli equivalent.
I had a very interesting conversation with Luke at the Tire Rack a couple of weeks ago . I called him because I wanted to order a set of Sport Cup tires for my Gen V. What he told me was that the Pirelli Corsa tires that are on my Gen V. Is a better track tire compared to the Sport Cups. Better track tire, better compound. Then he also mentioned to me about the TA record at Laguna Seca. He said that he was confused when he read Ralph say the TA was faster with the Sport Cup tires.. Anyhow he told me to wait for the Sport Cup 2s,and those are going to be the bomb!

Hey Lee,
So far I like the Corsas better than MPSCs as you know, but Tire Rack says shaving is mandatory and the price delivered is about $3k. Clearly the Corsas are superior to MPSCs at temperatures below 60 degrees or so. But unless they get the price down, I won't buy them.
I want to try the MPSCs again this summer. Then again, I'm heading towards using discounted slicks at this point. Much cheaper and performance is awesome. I think slicks in the cooler temps, MPSCs in the heat of summer. Do you know if MPSC2s are coming out in Gen V sizes, or at least in 345/30-19s?

Yes . He said Michelin is about to phase out the old Cups . The 2s will be the new replacement..

I wonder what incentive the guy at tire rack would have to say the more expensive tires are better... hmm can't put my finger on it$$$$$

I would love to see more technology in the ACR. Something that compliments the driving experience the Viper is known for, but doesn't take away from it.
