I'm trying to figure out if this is something I can do myself or if I have to take the car in to get it done. I bought new mounts as preventative maintenance and I'd like to install them in the next couple months. I don't have a lift so I would have to do it on jack stands with a jack.

If you've done it, any tips would be appreciated it.

Also, is it safe to lift the engine from the oil pan using a wood block or is their a better/safer way to do it.

Yes. It's not a big deal. Do the transmission one while you are at it.

I know there is a video on youtube about engine mount...try a search if you want.
There is also a great "how to" video on transmission mount change in the "how to" section of this site.

Yes you can do it at home not too hard. I did mine. Just get the car on 4 jack stands and use the floor jack with wood on it to do each mount one at a time. I found loosening both engine mounts when doing either side helps. Also remove your windshield cowl as the engine will have to be raised. That's about it but not hard at all.

I changed both the transmission and engine mounts on my Gen.1 with the car on jackstands.

Still fairly simple even from jack stands. It's been a while, but I know for certain I did not remove my windshield cowl.
