Head scratcher Who had this issue

To be short, 2017, no plastic clips like my other Gen 5 to screw license plate in. As it stands now, plate would ride against paint. The clips provided with the front plate are way too big and I really don't want to drill these out. I'm going to make my own rubber washer/spacer, but was wondering if anyone else has encountered this. It seems other cars from the factory don't have this issue, and some do.

I just put mine against the rear piece. Was it a mistake?

I put some 1/8" adhesive backed foam on the plate to prevent any potential issues as even when stood off at the corners it might flex elsewhere.

Maybe not. It might just be a change. For reference, this is how my 2014 looked. I'm just being anal retentive.

That works too. I found some 1/8" rubber washers that fit the screws.

i think if you have a carbon fiber rear, you get the white plastic plugs in it . if just the just the painted one you just get the hole.

The more I dig around, the more I'm finding the same as you described.

My 16' with carbon rear had them and the painted 17' new one doesn't.

I bought 4 rubber faucet washers from Home Depot and used those as spacers. It looks OEM.

Sort of what I did a strip of door weather proofing thick tape is stuck there prevents the plate from rubbing....

Yeah the white bracket you pictured is used for the carbon fiber. The painted rears just use regular self tapping screws. Although I did use the brackets on my painted rear. Just drilled the holes for them to pop in to.
