Hello there,

last year I bought a 1997 Gen. II Viper GTS and there is one thing that I actually don't like on this car, the brake performance. Compared to my Gen. IV Viper I can clearly feel how the brakes are not that great when it comes to exact dosing. I have to press the brake pedal half way through and more to get a good noticeable deceleration. Long story short, I would like to upgrade the brake system in my Gen. II Viper in order to achieve a better breaking behavior (something more like in the Gen. IV).

I already check several threads here in the forum but all I found was upgrades where people use after market wheels which are bigger than 18" or 19". I love the solution where people installed the Gen. III / IV brake system on the Gen. II. However, I have on my Viper the original 5-Spoke 17" wheels and I want to keep the "original" look. So far I was not able to find any brake system that could fit under the 17" wheels, so I thought I ask you guys...

Does anyone know a brake system which could fit under the 17" wheels or is there no other solution?

Thank you!

StopTech used to have a BBK for 17" wheels. Had the kit on my 97 GTS many years ago.

I have a front kit off a Hennessy 500 car. Along with Tom's 40MM rear caliper upgrade is probably your best bet.

A Gen2 will never break like a Gen4. :t0152:

Use the Gen 3 brake kit . Front and rear call Jon B . I had a gen 2 ACR and went to this and they were amazing after . Changes the whole car

He wants to keep his 17" wheels. So choices are limited.

Two piece slotted rotors front and rear. I use BAER, other companies available including Stoptech.
Worth rebuilding your front calipers with new seals and checking pistons :)

The 40 mm rear brake upgrade is great, it changes the braking from 70/30 to 60/40 so the car feels much better balanced.

Also upgrade to new braided brake lines. Mark at IPSCO sells these as do other Vendors :)
The old rubber brake lines will probably be expanding under pressure and also adding to that spongy feel.

There is also a carbon brake option, but its very expensive.
