View Full Version : Average Age of a Viper Owner
dbow119
02-01-2014, 01:36 AM
Considering I have read that the average age of a Corvette owner is 61 as of September 2013 based off one research study, I'm curious what the average age is for a Viper owner. With that being said, feel free to answer one or both of the following questions:
How old were you when you bought your first Viper?
How old are you currently?
I was 23 when I bought my first Viper and I'm 24 now.

The question was "average age"
"38.7% of all statistics are made up from bad data"
He will now have the information, the math is up to him. He should now be able to find the average age of initial purchase and current age.

I wonder what the durometer on those are haha. I am looking for some new wheels 19/20 or 18/19, so tire budget goes toward those.
Back on topic...seems like a good variety of ages! Glad to see some younger folks, as most of my colleagues have zero interest in cars. There are eighty students in my dental school class and literally TWO of us that are into them.

As a graduate student, I know all too much about bad or biased statistics. If I was doing research right now, you'd be in the exceptions category along with "Next Phase" . Thanks for a good laugh though.

You'll need at least 33 data points to have a representative sample population. You'll also have to take into account your method of data collection(internet forum) will skew your data to a younger population group.

So far, the average age at purchase is 36 and current age is 41.7.
The younger are well represented but there also is a spike of the sample population at 45-50 years old.

This thread is suspiciously like the many "I must be the youngest viper owner ever" threads seen on the various sites, except done as a humblebrag poll. Your averages are skewed by older owners not answering, and a few wise cracks.

I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not, but I didn't post this as a means to "brag" about my age or pretend to be the "youngest Viper owner" out there (I'm sure there are younger). The Corvette article had me thinking which made me genuinely curious what the approximate age is for Viper owners. I know these averages are not going to be perfect since not everyone is going to respond and/or give honest answers...I just thought it would be an interesting topic.
Sundiego
02-05-2014, 06:55 PM
Ok. Self reporting isn't going to get you an accurate answer. It will skew to a young age.
I would be interested in knowing who the oldest Viper owner is. I'm sure the oldest Viper racer is Johnny Yuma, ex NASCAR racer who was doing it in his early 80s last time I saw him.
Janni
02-05-2014, 08:02 PM
So we were talking about it - we got the car together before we got married. Henry "I had my priorities"...
And Bill - you are right - he does not age - forces me to step up my game.
I DO think that the Viper (and these great Viper folks) help keep you young. (minus a few months of premature aging I suffered.... might need to 'get work done' to counteract THAT!)

It is. Those used to drive me nuts on the other site. Like it was some kind of passive/aggressive bragging. Which is a useless thing to brag about cause I would totally win. Let me look through my passports, one of them must have a birthdate after 2001.

Those tend to be the new car customers, with the higher mile, older cars skewing to younger people. The older ones have no interest in comparing ages. Net worths, maybe. :)

My 03 had 5,026 when I bought it in March of 2013 and now has 8,912 so I guess I'm an exception to that higher mile cars lol. Jokes aside, I agree. I couldn't buy a new SRT or GTS right now. I'm saving up for a Gen IV, 1996 GTS, and 1992 RT/10. As much as I'd like to get the Gen IV first, I think I'll go after the 96 GTS or 92 RT/10 as they appear to be appreciating in value while the Gen IVs are depreciating in value.

I think the average of a lot of more expensive cars is higher then most only due to the fact that a lot of younger people can't afford what they would like to have. After you're older most people have a lot more disposable income and can now afford the things they wanted when they were younger. It don't make much difference if it's a Corvette, Viper, Porsche, Lamborghini or whatever.

Don't forget, people in stable realtionships and with gainful employment (the ones we want breeding) tend to have children later than they used to, meaning more money for cars in their younger ages. A lot of older people would have been driving that camaro ss or the charger with the 440 in it the day it came out or whatever it was they lusted after if they didn't have kids. So that changes things a bit.
