... let the trash talking begin!

This year our goal is to sell out the event with VOA members and their immediate family only.
No reason we can't - it's clearly the best thing you can do for yourself on August 5.

Full day, Miniature Road Course plus skid pad, beautiful scenery, top notch instruction and safe fun for all generations of Viper.
Normal price for something with less seat time at Lime Rock - $225.

Member's price for our VOA Day $130.

SIGN UP IS NOW OPEN! -- http://www.nyctvoa.org/autox2017.html
VOA members ONLY please. All regions welcome. We hope to sell out the event with maximum benefit to the members. Time to renew? :-)

hmm, never done autocross before. is this first timer friendly?

Pist0n
07-10-2017, 04:23 PM
Absolutely. It's like a mini-track day rather than a typical autocross. It's really safe, tons of runoff, and a great place to explore the limits of your car. My first year out, ACR Steve was a fantastic instructor.

If you -want- a typical autocross, SCCA's NNJ and NER have awesome courses that are typically quite Viper-friendly. (Yes, neither are in New York or Connecticut, but both are a little over the state line) If you are in Connecticut, Fairfield County Sports Car Club has some pretty Viper-friendly courses most of the time especially on their big lot.

ACR Steve

as Piston said- totally safe and very friendly for our cars. Great day hanging out with friends with the added bonus of playing on a really fun autocross track

Rumor has it the Wizard has a new autocross car he has been testing under a disguise

Guys that will mean the spots are basically half gone already.... don't wait.

Remember, no helmet required for this. No tech inspection required (although use common sense). We have air for tires, we have coaches to help you learn, we have Steve to chase and Dennis to trample... what could be better?:)

Hey this sounds cool! Are there any banked turns, bump strips, or straights where you can reach 100+ on this inner course?

Not on the inner course - this is what Skip Barber used for Advanced Car Control clinics for decades. You probably reach 65-ish.
Having said that, there is elevation change, off-camber turns, bump strips in a few spots. The things you develop here unlike anywhere else are hard braking transitioning to sharp turns, modulating your pedals, maybe even a controlled drift here and there if you're a real animal :-) It doesn't sound fast on paper, but it feels FAST.

Everyone Remember -- We will have some timed runs using Lime Rock's official system on the short course (bottom half) but most of the day is spent on the FULL course. If you want to time those laps, there are solutions you can use in your own car.

Get the electronics figured out in advance if you're going to use them... at track entry, we're paying attention to traffic and the flag person ONLY.

There are some cool solutions just using a smart phone to get timing and video combined. Harry's Lap timer (app you can download) seems to work pretty well for many people.

Ed suggested I should hop on in the thread again and explain some useful phone tools I use regularly at track days.

So the most useful one alot of guys use is an app called Harry's Lap Timer. For $20, the grand prix version has some amazing analysis and data for you to look at while watching your session. It includes a ton of track layouts using your GPS to locate the start/finish line to stop recording one lap and starting the next. It's extremely useful when you want upload just your fastest lap (let's face it, no one wants to spend twenty minutes watching yourself stuck behind some slow jabroni in a F430 Challenge cup car because he's too busy recording himself with gopros for the next boring episode of Top Gear Uzbekistan) this app is worth the look and weight in gold! Myself and Ralph can vouch for it.

http://www.gps-laptimer.de/

Secondly, check out Track Addict by HP Tuners. This one I believe is free but features modes for circuit, point-to-point (auto cross), and drag racing. It's not nearly as in depth as Harry's but will get the job done.

Of course I should mention that these apps do require a Bluetooth OBDII dongle that plugs in under your dash. Harry's website has a list of pre-approved and tested dongles that work with their app. A majority of OBDII dongles cost around the $15-30 range.

The other benefit to all this? You can turn your phone into an instant scan tool. Seriously! Got a check engine light? Dashcammond can take care of that and show you what's right and wrong. You can even wipe codes too. It also features monitoring gauges you don't have plopped on your dash in real time. It's pretty cool to see how the cars reacting, temperatures and so on.

Finally what are we missing here? A phone mount! I highly suggest the Ready Action phone mount. It's designed to cradle your phone in the horizontal axis and it was designed by David Donohue! (Yes, 24h of LeMans winning Oreca GTS-R driving Donohue!) It's very sturdy and prevents your video from being lost in focus.

https://www.readyactiongo.com/products/readyaction-suction-cup-mount-with-hinge

That's all for now, I'm going to hit the hay and get ready for one more day of work tomorrow. If anyone has any questions I'll my setup in my car.

Actually...... I have been approached by someone outside our club who organizes half-day sessions on the same track. He has invited Viper Owners to check out his group.

The price is more, BUT the seat time should be outrageous - he books 8 cars at a maximum... you could go out there and bang around for a half hour at a time. $400 per car with up to 2 drivers. If we send 2 cars they'll do $350 per car.

His next date is next weekend - Saturday August 12. Please let me know ASAP with an email or post on here if you are interested and I'll get you connected.

What a great day and an amazing showing for our Vipers and the NY/CT Viper Club.
More Vipers then any other car in top 30 and top 20
More members in top 20 and top 30 then any other car club

You guys were amazing . Very impressive that we have such great driving talent in what is relatively a very small club. The Top 20 qualifying times were just over 1 second dividing all of them. Everyone was under 19 seconds. This was the fastest top 20 ever.

It was very difficult to try and figure out the reverse course lines in the 3 practice laps. Next year we will be ready for anything.

Cant wait till next year :)

We'll get sponsorship from prefix for all the touch-up paint we need for under the front fascias.

LOL and replacement splitters. That being said, the ACR splitters can take a lot of abuse. Just sayin'. :)

Congrats guys!!! Way to represent team Viper! Wish I could have saw you guys compete in the reverse course in the afternoon. Very impressive.

I think we need to add a 2nd Viper AutoX day to the schedule next year. You guys would all probably running 17's in the '18 ShootOut :-)

Just do it, don't worry about what CPA Mike says. Do it and never look back.
