I know this has been talked about before. A solution is needed. I bought my car in 2014. It fell out of warranty two months ago with 3000 miles. That's when my window fell out. I called SRT to try to get them to warranty it. They agreed to pay half the bill. I'm on the hook for about $550 for a bad design on a $85,000 car. The dealer has had the car for two weeks now. This could be a real issue in a few years as our Vipers age.

I purchased my Gen IV ACR about a year and a half ago with 8800 miles... I had it three days and my passenger window regulator failed.

I think a lot of it has to do with the constant temperature changes in the doors from having the exhaust directly under, and also all the little vibrations for the exhaust.

Good call, to SRT.. I've had both replaced under 3yr/36 warranty. I just bought the max/care 8yr warranty through Clay R for this reason. Good luck, Greg

I have the 8 year warranty, too. The windows have been an issue on these cars since they first installed them - my Gen II GTS had both driver and passenger sides go, and my Gen IV ACR had the passenger side go. For the Gen V ACR, I just sucked it up and bought the warranty. So, if the windows go in the next 8 years, at least I'm somewhat covered (assuming they don't void the warranty for something like window tinting...).

They are fairly easy to fix on your own. But, it would likely cost you around $550 in parts if you want to go the expensive route (replace the assembly and not just re-glue the window). One thing I would recommend is that you have your dealer show you what the inner workings look like when they have the door panel off. That way, you'll have a better idea of what you're dealing with when you eventually have to replace or fix it again... It's not the end of the world, but it is a pain in the butt.

Also, get ahold of the service manual that describes how to fix things. It's a pain that nowadays you can't get it in book paper form, but at least you can print out the relevant pages from the disc and have them with you when you're tearing into things.

If you can fish out the broken plastic pieces and send them to me. I can try to make a delrin replacement.

Are people closing the doors with the windows not all the way up/down?

Both my windows are ratteling. Going in to the dealer on Monday for this and a clutch problem.

Sounds like I need to get in to this extended warranty deal as well. Do I get the extended warranty through the dealer?

It appears this Gen V window part is not properly spec'ed and is the failure item:

And the list of defects with the Gen. 5 continues. With all these reports of windows falling and rattling I am thinking maybe the Gen 5 is trying to morph back to a Gen 1 with the plexi windows you just put in place, lol

I am waiting for the standard line: its a hand built car, what do you expect!..............

What do others think of such a low volume production car having so many different types of problems...I know :t0152:

Like others have mentioned..it's not just the Gen V, it's been prevalent since the Gen II's.

It's probably the same window regulator used in a Neon, or something.

Part of the issue is that there is no external guide track as part of the door C-pillar (like on my Ram). So it's flimsy, and then people slam doors, etc.

I've said in other threads - I never use the auto-up/down function, I just inch it along with the button, and, I try not to slam the doors. Probably just delaying the inevitable....

1) Remove the door trim
2) Remove the lower door speaker
3) Reconnect window switch and lower window
4) Check to see if the window is seated inside the support bracket or if it has popped out.

Handing your car over to the dealer is a waste of time. You could have diagnosed this is 30 mins.

This is the exact problem. I just picked up my car from the dealer last night for this problem. Took it in a couple of weeks ago because my driver window fell down into the door. The dealership got the replacement pieces and when they were putting them on the window the window shattered. It took 2 weeks to get a replacement window so I picked up the car and drove it with no window for 2 weeks. In that time the passenger side window started to fall in as well. They replaced my driver window yesterday and used the pieces from the first time to repair my passenger window. I don't think the regulator is the problem it is the poor design and strength of the little plastic nuts. All four of them had small cracks in them.

I wonder if DSE or anyone has considered making a replacement... ;)

Is this due to using the window to close the door? Was warned at CAAP pick up to not use the window to open and close the door. Also noticed that with windows up the door closing effort is much higher than my Gen III (probably due to the convertible being more unsealed). The Gen III never had a window issue and has been opened and closed numerous times. But the window was not used to open or close it. Just wondering.

I never close the doors by the window. The passenger door happened when my daughter closed the door a little too hard. I heard the plastic piece fall off into the door. The same happened when I closed my driver door too hard once.

It's odd that the tech that took in my car seemed like he'd never heard of the issue. SRT game me the impression that I was the only person this had ever happened to. LOL.. I had a 96 with bolt in side curtains. Maybe that's the best fix.

I already have a Gen III door, cut open. I have a Gen V regulator on order. Not sure if that includes the failed part in question or if that is part of the glass. I will revisit this when things slow down.
