View Full Version : Why no rear diffuser

Picked up my TA 2.0 yesterday and was surprised that there is not a rear diffuser installed? Hell...my 2008 has one, and the ACR's have them. Why would one not be on the car?

The ACR rear diffuser should have been a standard option on the GTC. Diffusers help with stabilizing turbulent air and in no way (from what I know about physics) could it pose a danger without the ACR-Es heavy downforce.
Sounds like you should do a retrofit like another member on here did on his Orange TA 1.0! It looks killer!

IMO they should have put them on all Vipers. Stay tuned for some news about an aftermarket ACR reproduction soon.

Guys, first of all, its a road car, not a race car.
You cant make a track special with a specific package and then start offering bits and pieces to everyone (even though they already did that with the TA). Either you have an ACR or you dont. They offer multiple trims to suit everyone's need.
Porsche is not gonna offer the GT3RS wing on a Carrera S are they?
Or how about the ACR interior on a non-ACR?

They didn't come on the TA 1.0 either. I don't mind, since I always scraped those blades when I had them on the gen 3.

I agree with others that it just seems weird that all GenIII and GenIV cars had them and then they were eliminated for the regular GenV's.

I think from day one they had up their sleeve all the different models they were going to pop up on us, so they wanted to keep the strakes in the rear for the (real) racer and the sleeker version non strake, and to keep us buying the next coolest viper to pop up on the market, didnt want to show all their cards at once/look at how many people have bought the gen v many times over?

You're missing the point. It's not about offering bits off of the ACR. But the Viper should have had some kind of diffuser on it. Most cars of this level and performance have them. Yes, I'm aware that is has a "diffuser" but do you think the non ACR diffuser really does anything with those 2 slits and the MASSIVE rake angle that it has? Most cars in this class have a diffuser that looks like it's actually serving a purpose.

Most cars in this class actually produce lift, not downforce, at speed. I think we're doing just fine without the diffuser.
That being said I'm very interested in what DSE comes up with, there's no refuting that the factory diffuser looks badass.

What? You better lay off the bong. The TA was the first track car for the GenV. The TA 2.0 was the 2nd track car for the Gen V.

That thread is for taking eBay strakes and bolting them to the rear of any Viper.
This thread is for the ACR diffuser on other Vipers. It's been covered before on this site what the differences are between non-ACR and ACR diffusers.
Bolting those eBay fins onto your car is not the same. At all. Unless it's just some sort of look you're going for.

Why no rear diffuser?
One possible reason for not including a rear diffuser is that there was no engineering reason for putting a rear diffuser on a TA 2.0. Perhaps they were basing the lack of specifying a diffuser installation on wind tunnel and/or real world testing and the performance of the Gen V body and undertrays without a diffuser.

I have to think that if SRT felt that any model of the Gen V would benefit from a diffuser, that it would be installed at the factory. Every vent and air duct on the car is functional and there for a reason, so it's not like they just left it out

Can you send pic of the bottom of your Viper, your's would be the only one I have seen, as the rear panel on my ACR, is different than what's on the ACR-E, as there is no place to attach the panels to on mine.
thx

I thought the non extremes had diffusers as well just smaller ones with no ability to add the extensions?

Nope. But (I think) they do have the plastic underbelly panel with nuts built in that the extremes have. That puts them one step closer to being able to add the diffusers compared to the rest of us.

No on the ACR having ready to install diffusers on the underbelly panel. Just looked at my 2015 SRT its just like my 2017 ACR....unless there was a mistake from the factory. But on order sheets for a ACR-E you see a separate line item for the rear diffuser not so on the ACRs, (again on mine).

Total cost for all the ACR-E diffuser parts including strake extensions is $6232.23 LOL.

They don't, but that piece is actually pretty cheap(Compared to everything else): $541.50.

The ACR panel diffuser can be had if one is willing to part with some $$$. Bryan did a detailed how to with parts listings here: https://driveviper.com/forums/threads/17831-ACR-Diffuser-on-a-Non-ACR-Car?highlight=diffuser
