So a buddy of mine owns an exhaust shop. Says he can make something better and cheaper than corsa cat back. Will I throw cel if I run no muffler after cats? I'm all stock. I wanna make it sound better and louder.
So can I run straight pipe after my cats with no tune and not get cel?

I have a straight pipe. You won't get a CEL.... but volume does not increase a whole lot. Getting high flows is where the volume picks up....but thats cel territory.
I'd have your buddy eliminate the secondary cats and straight pipe. Should not cause a CEL.

The PCM has no knowledge of anything downstream of that first catalytic converter, so anything after that is fair game and should not cause any CEL issues.

My car with belanger headers and cat back with cats is way louder than stock. I imagine removing the cats would make it even more so. The volume definitely took some getting used to. At WOT it sounds like an absolute animal.
At idle honestly its not that impressive.

Anyone have a video?
Honestly I would rather buy a Corsa exhaust for ~1200 than mess with a custom exhaust you may not be happy with.

I disagree. 100% happy with mine. 2 owners by me are now going to do it.

This clip above is stock manifold. I installed belanger headers with cat since.

Ya... I bought almost all the exhaust options(except headers B/C TOO HARD TO CHANGE IF YOU HAVE THE SIMPLEST OF WARRANTY ISSUES). I continually play with it... doesn't seem like I'm % happy with the sound... I really miss the sound of my Borla on the Gen 2.
Here are the options I've played with, and IMHO...
1. Stock: is nice, but not quite loud enough. However I feel they've done a decent job with the exhaust note compared to previous year stock exhaust.
2. Stock cats w/Corsa: Fun/neat, a little refined, A little louder, doesn't hurt your ears, plays well with others, not scary, people like it, I like people, I have friends, doesn't make wife angry, and it has somewhat of a 'WOW' factor at WOT. I hate the heat of the stock cats... so don't like this option
3. BHF cats w/Corsa: Sloppy, unrefined, harsh, loud, hurts your ears at WOT, makes people angry, scares people on the freeway, makes wife and neighbors scoff... pretty awesome if you're single, been married a long time and don't give 2 shits, or already have no friends. HA! (also a negative is you can't hear the other awesome cars you ride with over your exhaust, and they can't hear their exhaust notes well either... kinda obnoxious...)
4. BHF cats and exhaust: Refined, exotic sounding, not super loud, doesn't hurt your ears unless in a tunnel, sounds like a ferrari/lambo on crack in a tunnel, gets louder with use, feel more vibration in your body from the beast...makes me feel kinda funny(insert Garth voice) so don't care if the wife is putting out as long it's my daily driver, I have some friends and still manage to piss some neighbors off, likely the best of all I have tried.
5. BHF cats w/Stock exhaust: Haven't tried it yet... should I?
That all being said, I'd imagine straight pipes is gonna sound like ass to me... but this is all personal preference... I say if you're mechanically inclined, buy all the exhaust options... you're only looking at a few grand and 3 hours labor to swap; grab a brew, try them all, and pic your fav. Just put all Belanger back on and went on a 5.5 hour drive in the hills.... I effing loved it!! but will likely change back to Corsa for a few car shows this summer when I'm not getting any from the wife and all my friends are on vacation.:lol2: Good Luck!

I did this, and yes you can with no CEL. It will only sound a little better though.. Once you take off the cats and add 1 high flow cat on each side, it will open the exhaust up and sound loud.. I now have this set up and I get NO CEL , sounds beast, and my sills are way cooler so my clear bra doesn't bubble.

So you took off both cats on each side, and then added back 1 HF to each side with a straight pipe thereafter? This is the setup I've been thinking about. No CEL? Which brand HF? Did you weld it into the stock location or did you buy it already joined to a 90 degree bend (to attach to stock manifold)? Or does someone already sell an HF already welded to a 90 degree pipe that bolts right up?
