View Full Version : help getting past NC emission testing

my car has stock exhaust manifolds, hi-flow cats and belanger cat backs. I tested one of the original systems for jonB and had no issues with codes until about 450 miles and I got a p0159 and p0137 codes. I didn't worry about it cause I run the arrow controller and figured when I need inspection I would just throw the stock ecu on drive it for 100 miles to get all values filled in and then get inspected. well time for inspection, threw back in the stock pcm and immediately got a p0037. cleared it out, drove a bit and at next crank up it was back along with a p1E00 $07E8 code which simply says see service manual for description. I know lots of folks have gotten the p0037 error with that exhaust setup but I have yet to see a solution. also anyone with a service manual know what the other error code might be. all I need is to pass inspection and then arrow pcm goes back in so don't care about long term solution. I know I can put back on stock exhaust system and hopefully correct this and pass inspection but id like something less drastic in terms of work. I also would like to have some confidence that if I go thru that work to put original system back on it will correct codes. wonder why I never got this code before. I have visually inspected the up and down stream sensors and wiring and they look fine. car runs great well not as good as with arrow pcm lol. I wrapped them long ago for heat protection even though no headers. is bank 1 on driver side and bank 2 on passenger side?
any help appreciated.

First of all, isn't that code related to the O2 sensor heater control? I don't think that's the same code that most people get from the high-flow cats, but I may be wrong...
I had a similar problem (with a code that said the cat was running inefficiently) here in CA with a similar setup (although it was on my Gen IV ACR). About the only thing I could do to pass was to clear the codes, not let the car idle for too long, keep it at high revs all the way to the highway, and then drive for a while on the highway in a lower gear (to keep the cats hotter than hell). I'd leave the A/C on and keep the car running at high revs while waiting, and it passed. Two days later, though, I'd get the stupid CEL and code again if I was just casually driving the car around town.

Wow those look really interesting, I wonder if the catalyst actually works? Seems to me that without actual flow through the body, the catalyst would never get up to temp. Really interesting concept, non the less.

What year is your car? The state of NC changed their inspection procedure, so that for the first 3 years, you only go through a safety inspection. No OBDII.

yea its a 2015 ta2. so its unfortunately time to do it this year at least thats what my registration renewal says.
