Friends
Using my new ODBII code reader (foxwell NT301) I read the code that is causing my engine light to stay on after repeated starts/drives. The code is P058C "Generic". I tried to delete it but it keeps coming back. Anyone got a clue what this is ? And how to get rid of it without a 1/2 day spent at the dealership.
Thanks

Any symptoms with the car apart from light??

nothing that I can determine is wrong with the car. Seems to drive and pull well. By nature, the car is louder and more aggressive than a typical car so if there is something that is only 5% off, I would have a hard time feeling it.

P058C-00-BATTERY MONITOR MODULE TEMPERATURE MONITORING PERFORMANCE
According the the flow chart from Chrysler the only cause of this code is an internal failure of the IBS sensor.(INTELLIGENT BATTERY SENSOR). It's located on the negative battery terminal.

So the sensor itself is bad? And, is this important to the operation of the vehicle? Or can I just order a new one under warranty?

The sensor is integrated into the battery connector, take a look and see if the assembly is intact.

I checked it and everything looked ok. I made sure the connector was firm and the fuse was still ok. I cleared the code again and it came back.
Is there any foul in driving the car? I have no idea why this would ever cause a bigger problem, but I ain't that smart anyway.

The IBS is used measure battery current, voltage, and temperature whose outputs are used in the energy management strategy.
Can you drive the car without any other issues probably but for how long. I wouldn't park it and demand a tow truck to the dealer it's not that serious but I would put it on the list to get done when you have a chance. The main issue this could cause is improper charging of the battery. Would suck to walk out of a store someday and not be able to start the car due to a dead battery.

Thanks. I have an appointment for next week when the Viper tech returns from vacation. I would think anyone could replace this thing, including me but we will wait for the trained guy to return.
