I need to check the diff fluid level (without a lift and without removing the belly pan). Is this the fill plug?

The picture is taken with the right rear wheel removed, camera facing in the direction of front left corner of the car.

I'm just going by memory, but that does not look like the fill plug on my car. Looks way too high on the case.

This is how mine looks.

Dewilmoth - thanks, your video came really handy. The fill hole was blocked from view by other components, but after watching your video I found it. All I can say is - I felt like working for Cirque Du Soleil while trying to remove the plug and stick my finger in there. Just BARELY reached it.

If anyone else is looking the fill hole - here it is:

Reminder: Torque the bolt to 15 ft-lb when replacing the plug.

That top hole is probably for the oil return for an external heat exchanger.

Hey, just want to say thanks for this thread.

Changed my Diff fluid yesterday and the job went real smooth (made a small mess on the floor).
The old fluid that drained out looked GREAT.
Was probably not necessary to replace just yet.

The pampering of this car continues...

Interested to hear what method you used to fill the diff?

What fitting you use at the diff? Or how did you connect the hose to the diff for the fill?
thks

I just did my diff fluid a couple days ago. I purchased a cheap fluid pump at auto zone. Very similar to this:
https://www.amazon.com/Plews-55001-Lubrimatic-Standard-Bottles/dp/B000BQW5LK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505134433&sr=8-3&keywords=auto+fluid+pump

This was my first time doing the diff fluid. Probably a little overdue (18K miles). It was pretty dark and nasty. The drain plug didn't show any metal shavings or anything like that, so I'm sure I'm fine. The process itself is pretty easy to do. In fact, I found the youtube video in this thread. Taking off the belly pan is a little annoying, but its a good time to give a visual on everything while your under there. Just drain and use fluid pump until it starts leaking out the fill hole.

Went the OEM route. Oil + Modifier.

Bought from Amazon (Prime) - Modifier LINK (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TTEX8W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) | Oil LINK (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TWI4DO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Lucky me, had her up on a LIFT.

Used a graduated Turkey Baster to measure and transfer the Modifier. Measured 2oz. + a smidgen more to account for transfer loss.

Used an 8" piece of tubing connected to the top of the oil bottles, turned 'em upside down and squeezed.
This is where it got a little messy. Just some drops on the floor plus the bit of overflow out of the fill hole.

I'm getting good at removing that belly pan!

Plus the guys at GearHeads (LINK (http://www.theheads.biz/do-it-yourself.html) the garage where I rent the service bay with Lift) brew their own beer.
N' I have to say the Pale Ale is damn good. :very_drunk:

Wasn't it determined there is a premixed diff fluid with modifier already added for these cars? Part #?

I believe I saw a long thread on here saying that there is an OEM fluid that does not require a modifier. Do you recall seeing that?

Here is the FINAL Answer Thread on Diff Lubricants LINK (https://driveviper.com/forums/threads/threads/10104-FINAL-answer-on-Gen-V-Viper-Differential-lubricant-plus-a-Gen-IV-tip)

Quoting that thread.. "Castrol SAF-XJ 75W-140 synthetic.. This fluid has a different friction modifier and blend % already mixed for factory fill and Service. No added friction modifier is necessary."
