What's the general consensus on reusing valve cover gaskets?
Thinking about installing roller rockers and not sure if I'll need to order new gaskets as well. They're original (~45,000 miles) and no leakage at the moment.
Can/should RTV be used when reinstalling the old gaskets?

get new ones, age cought up with them, if they are cork do not use silicone,it will bulge the gasket,if anything use 3m glue to help hold the gasket to the valvecover only for install(small amount) if rubber same way/ I personally don't use anything but the gasket

No, if they aren't leaking you do not need new ones. I've had my valve covers off countless times, and re-installed them with no issue.
The gaskets are rubber/metal, and as long as there are no nicks or tears, they will reseal without issue.

The gaskets are actually plastic with a bead of rubber on the top and bottom. Be careful with the gasket as it can crack if you accidentally bend the gasket too much (ask me how I know). If the plastic portion of the gasket cracks, you can get a leak. Don't use gasket sealer on an un-cracked gasket . It isn't needed and will just make a mess.

Ok, thanks. I'll be very careful with removal and try to reuse them.
Replacements are stupid expensive for what they are......

I got an extra set of new and reusable gaskets. If yours are cork you should ditch them in a fiery barrel.

Not sure what they are.
Are you selling the extra set?

I'll ship them on my dime for $200. They're the Cometic's so I paid about $20 more than that plus the cost of shipping. Not big savings for you guys but it's something...

If you change your mind, I'll take them. Need to replace mine too.

Interesting. Didn't know Cometic was making valve cover gaskets for the Gen 2. Are they pricier than OEM?

Mackzilla, I'll pass on them at the moment.
Thanks for the offer though.
