I suggest that you get a tow hook mounted as soon as possible given the lack of frame access for towing due to the aero bodywork

That's safe advice for all ACRs and even TAs. It's not a track thing. If you lose a tire (or and engine, eh hem) and need to get on a flatbed, without a tow hook, well, pray, a lot. I tried to get one but denied, haha, long story. I'll have one soon.

That's good advice. I'm thinking about getting a trailer to use as a temporary garage for mine while my real garage is being built, and having that tow hook would make it a heck of a lot easier to winch the car up into it's home.

This never really crossed my mind. Does the car not come with a tow hook like other cars that can screw in if needed for a tow? I don't recall seeing one in my car.

Yes, it's stored in the center of the spare tire. ;-)

We have installed front hooks on roughly 75% of all the cars that come through the shop new or used, they are an absolute life saver if you have to pull the car.

The front hook is a 2-pc with a removeable tongue. (tang) Black or Alum

The rears ( Left and/or Right) require small slits in the diffuser, and some frame-drilling.

Ah, guess I need to look closer. ;-)

So on my car, I only needed a flatbed once (flat tire), but I was able to drive it onto the flatbed (it was tight). So if the car cannot move under its own power, there is no where underneath (at leas on a non-ACR) where a tow operator can pull the car up onto the flatbed. That is concerning.

There is a small oval opening that they tie the cars down with or have in the past, but a tow truck cable will chew the heck out of your front fascia at the angle it would be pulling.

Good advice, Steve. I know this is the Gen V forum, but could Mark J. or Jon B. suggest a hook for a Gen IV ACR?

They make the same hook for the G3/4 cars just different length.

Yikes! I guess I need to order and install one of these. Thanks Mark.

It's an IPSCO tow hook, believe they are a sponsor here? http://www.ipsco.org/Viper_files/SRT%20Front%20Tow%20Hook.htm
I'm pretty sure they offer it in red but I just ordered a black one and rattle canned it in red.

This same part on another site is almost double the price.
Appreciate the link.

Now if we can get the seat lowering kit for half price too.

Is that gen SCCA approved (shorter) one or the standard long one? On the website the standard one looks a bit too long.

Thanks for the reminder. Had the hook for months. I installed it today. Be careful of the shims. Some areas had 4 some 3 and some 1.

Some DSE tow hook options coming soon. Front is compatible with ACR aero as needed with the DSE support brackets. Rear is a few months off but will be out of the airflow of the diffuser as the front is out of the flow of the radiator or brakes. Both are compatible with all Gen Vs. They will be anodized black once finished.

This is important. To install the hook you have to remove the four or five (I forget) screws that hold the top of the front fascia down. Simple enough, but under the screws are shims. There might be none, one or more. They were put there to level the front bumper with the hood when closed. Note how many are under each screw as you remove them to replace the same way. It's not the end of the world if you left one off but you want to replicate the way it came from the factory.

+1. These are easy to lose especially if you don't know they're there. After fumbling around trying to get them back in, I finally used some packing tape to hold them together when reinstalling. You could also Superglue them together before you try and put them back in. These guys are really slippery devils!!

On my SRT I got one from Mark - painted orange. Great quality and great price.

Protip: keep a small wash towel or cut piece of hose in the car. If you do need your car towed, it will destroy the paint on the tow hook. Not the end of the world, but will keep your pretty tow hook pretty :)

Keep a nylon tow strap in the trunk. Cheap, very strong and keeps any metal hooks far away from the tow hook or bumper.

Thank you, yes I would but it will have to wait for the next round as I just got the lot anodized black.

Is that nut attached to a frame member? I didn't think it was and if it isn't I would not want to pull the car with it.

While the stud is attached directly to the frame and I believe strong enough to tow the car, the problem I have found with this design upon further testing is that the plastic grille between the stud and frame does not allow a firm enough foundation (there is some lateral movement) because it does not sit perfectly on the frame. Therefore this design is dead on arrival unfortunately - I don't/won't sell anything I believe to be subpar in form/fit/function.

Roughly when you hoping for a redesign to come about?

If you have had to have your car winched onto the back of a flat bed and watched in horror as I did, you will buy one of these instantly. They grabbed it by the front control arms. :(
