Catch Can suggestions

Strongly considering a catch can for my GTS. Been doing searches, reading, etc. Only options I really see are the 2 JMB's and the AC Perf. Love the AC Perf one, but I just cant justify that cost for it. I do like the 2 JMB's also. My dilemma is I've seen none of them speak of hooking to the CCV vent, which from what I've read is the biggest source of oil on our cars, much more so then from Valve covers. Suggestions, what are you other GEN I and II cars running?

I am running a large vented catch can that has the valve covers and the CCV hooked up to it. OR you can run a closed system with an oil separator catch can style that has the valve covers and CCV on the inlet and vacuum being pulled on the outlet side from the air box or manifold or pre blower if you are supercharged.

How much oil are you catching?

Not sure yet..I just installed the catch can about 100-200 miles ago so I doubt much. I'll take a look this weekend though.

I run an Elite Engineering catch/separator can, closed system from the CCV. I run a separate open vented catch can from both valve covers. I will get about 6 oz or so in the CCV catch can after a hard day of track use. The valve cover can gets about 2 oz during the same time. During normal use I don't get any measurable oil in either can, but I really don't drive it around town much, so it's hard to say.

That's a lot of oil. Sounds like that was a solid investment. Would love to know if normal use street guys are seeing any benefit?

I was only getting half that much when I was going slower at the track ;) Like I said before, when I drove it on the street, I didn't really see anything of a measurable amount, to the point that I hardly checked it, ~ 1K mi/year.

I have the same experience. Catch nothing on the street, tons on the track.

I have a moroso air/oil separator between the PCV and the intake, that is where the bulk of the oil you will catch will come from. Don't skimp out on one of these either, the moroso one I have has a chainmail like mesh on the inside to catch the oil going through it that isn't going anywhere... Cheaper ones or ebay specials will use steel wool, which if ever breaks apart or anything is doing directly into your intake manifold, and then into your cylinders. Cheapo ebay one for your valve covers though is fine, it's just a glorified breather with a tank... Still catches stuff though, but really all the blow by goes up the pcv, so the one instream of the pcv catches 10x as much.

Good point, definitely agree, good separator in CCV system, cheaper catch can/breather on the valve cover vents. The only thing I would've done differently, was to install a larger can on the CCV/PCV system. Didn't realize I would catch so much running at full tilt on the track.

I've run this catch can and it works very well .More efficient than most on collecting oil . Can also be hooked up in different configurations per instructions .

I'm also running a Moroso separator off of the PCV. I haven't had a track day since installing it, so its only caught a small amount in a few hundred miles.

I have write up in the how to section on running two systems one for the CCV and one for the valve covers. I catch no oil during street use only on the track only via the CCV. I never catch anything from the valve covers. NA.
