As most of you know my Viper collection has some pretty unique pieces. I have a signed gen V piston, autographed right front facia of the Oreca GTS-R, the NY Auto Show gen V Hot Wheel and so on...
But one of my favorite Vipers of all time is the SVS Stryker Twin Turbo. I've always like the paint work on that car. Red, white and blue flames, well over 2000HP running E85, and a record of 231+ mph. What's not to like right?
So, for whatever reason, just for kicks I decided do a search to check if there was anything on Ebay. Most of my collection has 1:18th scale cars, a few 1:24th scale and mostly Hot Wheels in between. I usually don't collect the odd sizes but sure enough there was at least a half dozen Stryker TT's made by Eagle Collectibles on Ebay. I stumbled on one for $20 and put a watch on it. Nobody bid, so I jumped on it in the last few minutes and won.
I didn't read the auction, never looked at the pictures as it never really hit me to do so. I figured sweet, got a new collectible and that was that. Well later that night I get an email from the seller stating that they won't be able to ship it out till Wednesday. No biggie I replied.
Wednesday rolls around and I get a 2nd email from the seller, Scott. He explains to me that his father is former US Senator of North Dakota Byron Dorgan and was given the car by Misak Jr who autographed it with a previous record, since Senator Dorgan is involved in energy projects. Scott then received it, had it for a while and decided it needed to go to a new home.
Now, not only can I say I have a piece of Viper history, but one a US Senator had as well.
