Trailer for Viper

Looking at getting an enclosed car trailer for my Vipers. Don't know a damn thing about trailers never had one...Talked to a few experts on basics needed...Thanks Bill Pemberton...Would haul only one Viper at a time...Looked at a few like Featherlite...But my other friend recommended Car Mate. Guy at the dealership there very knowledgeable and he's close to me...Gave him Viper dimensions...He suggested a 22', 5500 lb axle, side door, torsion tube suspension, center strap/criss cross method, equalizer hitch, long tongue-V nose, race ramp added later. Theirs are not aluminum I would only use a few times a year and never in rain or snow so that OK??? Would be a custom build around $7500-$8,000. Am I missing anything? More concerned about safety for my cars and basics not the price...Thanks!!! Scott

I have a 22' Featherlight. 7500# torsion axles, electric brakes, electric winch which is a necessity, race ramps, Etrack and 4 swivel D rings for cross tying. The door is on the right side by the front of the trailer. The inner fender wells prevent you from having a drivers side door so using the winch to get the car in and out of the trailer is a must. Once you get the correct straps and tie downs it's really easy. What will you be using to tow?

We have a Car Mate, 26 foot, etrack in floor, 10k capacity on dexter 5000 axles and an escape door. Love it, its actually about 10 years old now, and works great for us

Thinking about getting a Dodge Ram 2500....New or used don't care won't be putting a ton of miles on it.

Exactly, I feel comfortable rolling the car back under power, but, pulling in under power with a clearance of 4" per side is a bit iffy.

With the winch, the first thing you do is take a lot of measurements then mark the floors. Using the handheld remote you simply turn the steering wheel as you're winching the car up or back for the perfect side to side and front to back position. I have mine marked for 4 different cars. In most cases, due to the inner fender wells, you simply cannot get in or out of the car so pulling it up or back under power is almost impossible unless you can fit through the window.
On the truck, a diesel will make it an easy tow.

Great advice...Last year when I picked up my first Viper at the factory my pick up guy was surprised how wide the Viper was. Yes, I had to crawl out the window took my shoes off and was really careful! He had a side door but had his own stuff up front so we had spacing problems!!! Glad I'm not 6'2" or something! But never again...

A couple people mentioned it, but E-track is a must. I have a open aluminum trailer and thats the only thing I have left to make it nice. D rings work, but I'm using wheel straps now and I would feel better about using the over-the-wheel E-track style.

I went with a 28' Mission aluminum. Premium escape door with removable fender is the best option ever. I got the full length recessed E-track. Tow mine with my 2500 with no problems. Depending on how tall you are you may want extra height too. Im 6'4" so I went with 7'. The winch comes in handy. I added cameras inside the trailer to give me a view of the fender area and the front/back of car while loading.

Just want to make the point that the driver's exit doors can be used with a little planning. Here is my trailer, originally built in 2002 for my '97 GTS and designed to allow the driver's door to open. It has worked great so far with my Gen II, Gen IV, and Gen V GTS. Waiting to see how it works for my ACR that should be finished any day now. The elevated ramps allow for easy access to low clearance Vipers and provide a place to install some light to illuminate under the car when loading, as well as allowing the driver door to be used.

We have a 24' Mission Aluminum EZ-Hauler, saves considerable weight compared to steel and you could haul a larger load if need be. With 2x5200 torsion axles, rides smooth as silk behind a 2500 HD Sierra Denali. Has a 48"x 54" escape door (a must have), it has the extra 6" height, makes the loading door longer which helps with approach angle. Even with the ACR-E at track height and the track front splitter on it is close but just makes it with some homemade ramps, some kind of ramp will be a must. Going to add a winch next week, a must for loading by yourself. We have the standard escape door, at track height the door clears the fender wells with room to spare. The fender wells are only around 8" tall, most trailers we looked at the fender wells were 11-13" and the doors would not open without loading the car on a 2"x12" track. They have a premium escape door with removeable fender wells, wish they would have had one of those on the lot, looks like the ticket..!

Those fender wells are completely removable (attached with the 4 point black star nut in pic), all that is left is the tire. so door clears easily. Mine door clears with the standard escape door.

Side escape door for sure. E-track and D-rings everywhere. Multiple batteries and solar, outlets on on the interior/exterior are will make your life a lot easier.
With the batteries and solar recharging I can run all my tools, fridge, lights, fans, space heater, battery chargers etc indefinitely.

Thanks for all the data. Apparently there are tons of orders this year and they told me order now and wait 6 weeks or wait a few weeks and wait 10-12...Must be all the Vipers that are selling!!!
