Havent had a chance to post these yet. Long story short with all that has been going on in my life this year I ended up having to buy a new car. My civic was about to bite the dust. Probably about 100k miles early. They told me an engine replacement was necessary at 103K miles. I drive hard, but not that hard. Anyway....I picked up a new '14 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. I love it! It's officially my first chrysler as a daily driver. I would have gotten a dart as I really like it BUT with two kids it was time to step up into something with a little more space. It rides very nice and no complaints so far.

Here she is...

Congrats on the purchase, but you must be the first person to blow a Honda motor with that kinda miles ,what happened?

Thanks Stretch!

It's a long story. I had a head gasket go at 88K miles (2 weeks outside of my extended warranty!) and fixed by a local shop. Then the dealership tells me they think that the Headgasket was never done and that instead of charging me 1K in labor to find out the block may not be useable they just suggested replacing the engine with a used one. Also, a new CAT. Stabilizer bar etc. SO bye bye to the Civic and hello to the Cherokee

Congrats Bob! I got to check them out while photographing a pair of gen V's this weekend. I'm really starting to like the exterior. A little out of this world, a little different but there's something about it that's for sure.

Cool! My Neon SRT-4 has close to 155k on it, so I'm keeping an eye out for a replacement. I love the idea of a Cherokee or a used Grand Cherokee (maybe even SRT8).

Are there any hidden gems that most people might not know about the car? How does it drive?

Always like the style Jeep does. What is it rated for fuel? My 08 Highlander is getting me 20 MPG for highway (all my driving)

Congrats Bob. I just picked up a SRT Cherokee in July. Pretty satisfied with the quality. Best of luck with yours!

It drives great. The transmission is a little difficult to get used to but i'm good with it now. It's got a nine speed auto. Fuel economy s rated at 31 for the highway (with the 4 cyl and FWD which I have) so i'm figuring combined i'll get 25 MPG and i'm hoping thats a conservative estimate. :) As far as hidden gems there is some of the usual jeep stuff. theres a jeep climbing a hill at the base of the windsheild. Pretty cool. The one thing I found so surprising (and I can;t believe i'm mentioning this) is that it has an actual glove box! You can fing (not joking) a full sized lap top in it if you wanted. Not too many manufacturers are doing that kind of thing today.

I don't remember the city rating but the highway rating is 31 MPG's! Thats great IMO. I have the 4 cyl so thats why its so high. I don;t need the 4WD and a 6 cyl. Where I live it just isn't necessary plus I have owned hondas for the last 16 years so fuel efficiency was a big selling point for me. It's only got 450 miles on it right now so the motor hasn't broken in yet at all. Hoping for great results on this!

Does it take regular 87 octane? I noticed a trick they played with the Dart was that the small I4 got great mileage but took Premium unleaded. In my area, they mostly advertise the 87 octane price and its a crap shoot whether the premium 91 or 93 blend is $0.20 or $0.50 more per gallon and I'm tired of playing games with gas stations. Well, on my daily driver at least...

I double checked it and it takes 87 oct. :)

Whitebeard,

I am getting 20+ ( overall ) with my V6 Grand Cherokee Limited and the smaller Cherokee is definitely topping that. Have had some customers say they are getting close to 30 on the highway , even though it has
only been out a short time. One V6 customer, I sold, swears they are getting 25mpg combined , but again you don't know how they drive. The 9 speed in the Cherokee and the 8speed in the Grand
Cherokee are returning really good real world numbers from consumers and they do all run fine on 87 octane -- that is all I have had in mine.

Congrats on the purchase and getting into a Chrysler Corp. product -- you definitely made a wise choice for the crazy Winter we are having this year.

Congrats! My dealer had one on the showroom floor when I was getting the SRT8 and my Dart both serviced last month. They are very nice trucks. You would like the Dart: my 2013 1.4 Turbo/6-speed (yes, needs Premium, but makes it easy as all three of my Mopars do!) gets good mileage, and does GREAT in the snow. In fact, it's the best car in the snow, front or rear drive, of any I've owned, and actually makes me miss my former trucks, and Wrangler, less. Had it just over a year now, and except for a flat tire on Thanksgiving morning due to road shrapnel, it has been perfect. And, I understand I have a bit of a collectors item now, as the 1.4T/6-speed option is no longer available? Or maybe I'm wrong there.

At any rate, good luck with the Cherokee, and keep us posted.
