Those that know me know I've had 4 Gen 2, a Gen 4 and lastly a Gen 5 which I stupidly sold last year.

Now after going to Viper Tracks 3 I'm pining again. Except I'm looking at ACR's

Someone with an ACR talk me down off this ledge......

You going to get an Extreme or regular ACR?

I don't see the point unless you get an Extreme...

Get an extreme.

Or A GTS-R. That's what i want.

Get an ACR if you plan to track her. Thats where that car was born to be. If not, just pick up a standard GEN V. Either way...let us spend your money! :)

I love that this car keeps popping up! Lol

If not the dolphin car, you should definitely find yourself an ACR especially if you plan on tracking the car. It really is an amazing car. You know Vipers and have been around them for quite a while as have I. I can tell you that the ACR is unlike any other. You will be amazed. Currently considering getting another one.

It really comes down to what you want. Will you track it often? Do you care if it's street-able?

I know a lot of people here say the ACR is street-able but everyone I've talked to in person admits they are pretty uncomfortable and hard to street drive often. We have really nice roads in Los Angeles as well so take that as however you like.

I think if you want something that can do both, a nicely optioned GTC with 1.0 TA aero is the way to go.

I have a hellcat for a daily. And yes, I'll track it a few times a year. I owned a 2001 ACR with more aero, race seats, thin hood, etc that was really a track car. I drove it to work a fair amount. Worse thing was in traffic with the clutch. Hell, an overheating Gen 2 stuck in traffic on a hot day can't be worse could it?

Now I work from home so I got that going for me now.

Wait you're serious? Seriously serious?

It's 2017, I cannot fathom the fact that there's a human on this planet that has never, not once seen this car on the internet, at least once.

That's mind blowing in itself.

Maybe things are different in LA,but I can tell you that the ACR is every bit as comfortable to drive as my 08 911 Turbo and miles ahead of my 02 ACR. It's a track car, but to me is has everything that a luxury car would have. Great interior, and more gadgets than you can shake a stick at. If you are used to a Gen II then this will be many steps up. No comparison and it will make the Gen V feel like a Rolls Royce.

Ok Stealth, let me help ya out here...

Thats the Dolphin Viper, it was an abomination painted at the request of a Dot Com Genius, by Christian Reese Lassen

24158

Now I like nature as much or maybe more than the next person... but the Dolphin Viper was probably the fugliest thing ever done to a car.

Lassen also did a Dolphin Diablo and other cars I just found... most of which are not as intense as the Viper...

From time to time the Dolphin Viper comes up for sale... God Bless the people who can handle having it in their garage.

For the future... Be like Nancy Regan... Just say no... To Christian Lassen touching anymore cars...

Don't do it. They explode the minute you take them off the dealer lot. And, the ones with the good colors tend to explode even more. So, from one Viper fan to another, just don't do it.

BTW - anyone see a good ACR-E available that I can use for just the track? OK if it is a blemished title as long as it runs the way it should....

I came from a 2013 Track Pack GTS which I logged more than a couple track miles in. I heard that the ACR was a major step up from a GTS in terms of track capability but was still in shock after my first day at COTA a few weeks ago. Bested my previous time by 2 seconds and hadn't even started to push the car yet. Amazing...

Cat, we ran into each other again this weekend. If your looking for a track car, and aren't concerned about the dollars, the ACR is the car. I have all three in my garage, GTS, TA and ACR. The ACR gets to be a little much on the street if you properly set it up for the track I will admit and in hindsight, I would have gone for the full stereo system. Let me know if you want to talk more about them from a track perspective, my TA may be going on market, number 53.

You'll always be on the fence until you sit in one and realize what the car is all about. All you have to do is avoid sitting in one and you can go on in life wondering what could have been.

If you sit in one, they bite and when all your friends are around taking your picture and telling you to "just do it", you walk away with the best American made car of all time.

At least that's how it happened for me...

If you enjoy tracking there is nothing like the nirvana that an ACR will bring you. I've owned several track cars and nothing is as fast, confidence inspiring, drama free as an ACR. You got a taste of it in the TA 2.0, the ACR will take it up a huge leap from there.

Just do it. You only live once.

That TA 2.0 at VT3 was well used and that's putting it mildly. On the track Sat (I didn't drive Sunday) at the end of the one straight where the biggest brake zone was it darted left or right randomly and screwed up my line. My 2004 was stable as an arrow setting up for turns with hard braking. I did have the dynamic shocks on it though. Sadly, I think the ACR is the perfect car for me , my personality and what I intend to use it for. I need to go look at the price of consumables next......

I think that's part of the bigger pic - consumables. My friend with an ACR (who has owned FCars and Pcars, which he has tracked extensively) and just took delivery of a GT3 RS, says the ACR is the single most expensive car to track he has ever owned. In fact, the costs blew my mind!

catwood
03-24-2017, 01:34 PM
the GTS was over $2500 on a long weekend when all things considered. Tires, fuel, tow fuel, entry fee, oil change and then amortizing the rest of the consumables. It's never cheap. But it's like a divorce. The reason it costs so much is because it's worth it!

I certainly can't talk you off the ledge here. I think this is the opportunity of a lifetime to grab something with such an unusual combination of supercar handling, American muscle car power and heritage, "Wow, what was that" styling, hypercar rarity, and a comparatively bargain price.

I think you'll be waiting a very, very long time before you find that mix again -- if ever.

I'll probably get hung for this...

To me it would come down to what I use the car for the most. Track=ACR, Street= GTS. The way things sit currently even if I had the funds to buy a new ACR I would probably still go with a GTS/SRT/GTC w/ TA1 splitters/spoiler (at the most). The ACR is a purpose built car for the track and to me wouldn't be something I want to drive on the streets. Not a fan of a huge wing on a car that is driven on the street. Hell, when I first got my car I wanted the TA1 goodies but the longer I keep the car and look at it the more I love the classic lines of the the "plain ol' GTS".

But this is why there are choices. If everybody liked the same thing it would be a boring life and life's too short to for that.

Hey Carl, you might need an intervention for that buy-back too???

Those ACR-E's are real nice but $$$$$$

Before you buy either, might want to ask Bondurant what they (or FCA) want for the vipers in their fleet. Program ends in June, and I'm sure they'll move them quick and with attractive pricing.
