Im looking to buy a 2015 viper with 12k on it.. 1 owner car fax is clean.. It does have header back exhaust and I'm being told there is a recall for oil consumption so they are replacing long blocks.. What should i know or look for in buying this car?? will the dealer still do the recall even tho it has mods?? I can't take a risk on an 80k viper and find out i gotta replace the motor out of pocket.. Any and all suggestion and advice is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

Do yourself a HUGE favor and read all the warranty related posts on here along with the threads on typical issues when buying a Viper. There are a few staple items that you should probably know about before you buy. There is a current thread a couple posts down with some good info in it.

Good luck. You are in for quite a ride if you decide to pull the trigger.

Yep, please read the active thread: "looking to buy 13-17". All the information you're looking for is in there.

I read that post.. i think the car I'm looking at has 5yr-100k warranty on drivetrain according to carafe but that thread says only 13-14.. also it says NO OPEN RECALLS so does that mean they checked the engine for the consumption issue or what do you think.. any advice is greatly appreciated.. below is the carfax

Only the GTS have a 2 vent hood.

Everything else has 6+ vents.

Chicago MotorCars eh?

They have some awesome inventory.

I believe this is the Yorange one they want like $84k for lol. Definitely overpriced, so I hope you pay less than asking. I have my eye on that car though haha, but I can only pay about $76k for it. Will be making an offer on it in about 2 weeks if you don't buy it.

The GTS and GT have the GTS (2 vent) hood standard but some GTS/GT cars have been upgraded to the SRT (6 vent) hood when ordered ($500 option).

R29 was completed on 1/22/2016 and R40 completed on 7/23/2015. All cars the were effected by R28 were given the 10 year warranty but there are also some additional without R28 recalls that received it but I've never heard of a 2015 receiving the extended warranty.

Ok so your saying it isn't affected by r28 as far as you can see?? this is what car fax says for warranty can it be inaccurate?? should i call dodge to verify?? thanks for the help

Basic 36 months or 36,000 miles 19 months or 23,950 miles
Drivetrain 60 months or 100,000 miles 43 months or 87,950 miles

No R28 recall for that car as far as I can tell. Yeah, the warranty info is correct. Mine has the same. I was just trying to say that because it doesn't have the R28 recall it didn't get the powertrain warranty doubled from 5 years to 10 years. I'm sure you'll be fine if you have any small issues but if you have any expensive failures, such as an engine, odds are more likely you won't have any warranty because of the modifications the car has. It looks like a very nice car though.

Ok thanks, I'm probably going to go supercharger / spray with it anyway right away but if i needed it replaced before i did more mods.. so just exhaust alone they won't honor the recall if the engine is affected for sure??

Honestly it seems impossible to get a 100% answer either way out of anyone. Basically the car will be investigated on a case by case basis. In the past the FCA has been denying engine failure warranty claims from defective blocks because of mods that we all know wasn't the root cause. A few have been able to overcome this with some fighting effort so it's a gamble. This all sounds like moot point anyways since you're adding a blower and the odds of that car having an R28 related failure at this point in time are pretty low considering it's a 2015 and the current miles. Most of these failures are sub 10k miles with the sweet spot around 2-5k miles. You could always send the oil off for testing yourself for about $30 if you want to sleep better at night before you mod away.

Do an online reputation search on the dealer.
