Towing

I am sure Viper owners here have had their car towed at some point. What type of tow truck was used to tow your Viper?

I have a 99 RT/10 that (sadly) must be towed to the shop soon. I am guessing that I will require a flatbed.

Any thoughts?

Using a rollback (flatbed) would be the only way I would want a Viper to to hauled/towed.

You would need to make sure that they can load a car that sits as low as a Viper before they even try to load it.

Sounds like you need to join the Ontario Club, get one of the members to load up your beast in his enclosed trailer and take it to the shop -- might cost you some beer and Viper comraderie, but heh, then you wouldn't have the worries of a towtruck.

Bill is right find a friend with a trailer and stay way away from the tow truck. Not sure north of the US but we can rent car hauling trailers down here.

Ya we can rent trailers up here no problem. That's how i brought my baby home! 1200km round trip. That is definitely what i would do rather than getting it towed.

Case of Labatts, Molson or Moosehead and you can get three strong Canadians to push it down there.

I actually used to live 15min from that kid and we grew up racing motocross. He's only 21 despite looking 40. Crazy how a joke with a few friends went viral like that. He threw a post of him being at a local bar in Uxbridge one night and a ton of people showed and he drove he Enticer down main st on the pavement with sparks flying everywhere wasted :lol2:

That's exactly why I have a 28 foot enclosed trailer. lol

It's what I used when I went to Alden NY last August to pick up my 99 ACR.
We went straight from NY to the Mopar Nationals in Columbus OH, then back home 5 days later.

How do they lift the front of the car to get the dolly under it? Is it a separate dolly for each front wheel? Is there a connecting bar across the dollys? Is it only your steering lock tab on the column that is stopping the steering from turning?

It's pretty simple really once I saw how the guy did it.... basically they slide two aluminum connecting rods under the car which sit on either side of the tires they're carrying. Then they put the dolly on each side and connect the ends of the aluminum rods to the dollies. lastly with a long leverage bar, they swing a lever connected to each dolly wheel and if lifts up the dolly from each wheel. Once all 4 are done that portion of the car is off the ground by about 6 inches. Then they just lift and secure the other side of the car like you see in the picture. Pretty novel really. I wouldn't recommend this for highway travel but for short rides to the dealer, it works great.

that's what they use to repo vehicles.. quick pick.. they can do it almost all remotely from inside the cab. then once they get out of the area. put the dolly on the fronts. the dolly lifts the car up. pretty neat stuff.

Hook is much easier than getting under the car and likely saves your bumper too
