Fall Smoky Mountain And Cherokee National Forest Color Cruise 2017 is now in the planning stages.

We will be considering lodging availability on the peaceful side of the Smokies - Townsend Tennessee, which is where we will stage for the drives.

visittownsend/ (https://www.facebook.com/visittownsend/)

We are currently considering the weekends of October 20 - 22 or October 27 - 29. We would like to get a headcount of those that are tentatively interested.

These are usually the weekends that are ideal for the changing leaves to peak - but as many of you probably know, this timetable is subject to the summer's and early fall's rain and the temps. It is difficult to hit the ideal time unless you remain flexible. Unfortunately, this is also when a multitude of visitors come to the Appalachians for the same reason, so rooms become difficult to book.

Here are SOME of the places of lodging at which we are looking (they are all within 2 or so miles of uncrowded U.S. hwy 321 of each other, so pick your level of stay, and in no particular order):

Treemont Lodge and Resort (https://www.facebook.com/tremontlodgeandresort/)
Dancing Bear (https://dancingbearlodge.com/)
Best Western (https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotel-details.43178.html?iata=00170230&ssob=BLPBM0001G&cid=BLPBM0001G:TRIPADVISOR:HWS:43178)
Docks Motel (http://www.docksmotel.com/)
Highland Manor Inn (http://www.highlandmanor.com/)
Riverstone Lodge (http://www.riverstonelodge.com/)
Richmont Inn (https://www.facebook.com/RichmontInn/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE)

There are of course others - please do a search and find what suits you!! Also, if you want to be closer to many more food establishments, you might consider staying in Pigeon Forge or Maryville - both are only about 1/2 hour from where we will assemble for the drives....

HERE IS THE FINAL DATE FOR THIS EVENT (Rain or shine, so put on your rain tires please)
October 27 - 29, 2017.

OK - many of you have already used the above links (start of thread) and booked rooms - way to go! I will put out a general itinerary soon. I will try to arrange a couple of group places to eat, etc. based upon head count. This year will be more loose - ie, not details of events planned out - as yours truly started a bit too late for accommodations for 2017. Not-to-worry, as this is already ramping up to be a fun and probably regular event for the AL/TN club.

Hurry, get you a room! No really, get a room now! :lol2:

Yo! uvbnbit (https://driveviper.com/forums/members/122-uvbnbit) - get a room dude.

Just booked a room at the Riverstone Lodge (800.854.7358). Very reasonable rates ($80 - $100 per night) and they have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Great for weather dependent participants driving from WV!!!

They also have 10 rooms still available in case anyone is interested.

Despite the fact that I see Mike is going, I'm in :) ! Thomas has put me in charge of planning a Sunday lunch for us on the way home and we agreed that everyone likes wings, so we're going to plan for Knoxville Hooters. I'll use some of my contacts and see what VIP treatment I can get us.

I am working on Smokin Joes (https://www.facebook.com/SmokinJoesBarbque) - for dinner either Friday or Saturday - remains to be settled. Sunday lunch is in V10SpeedLuvr's court. There's always the Cherokee Grille in G'burg to fall back on, on one of the nites - they seem to love us - and that's only a pleasant 25minute drive from Townsend.

drum it up with your viper friends, let's get this event to be the sister main event to the T.O.D. in the Spring.

WARNING:
Few rooms left in Townsend area!!!!

(but of course one could stay in Pigeon Forge or G'Burg or Maryville and meet up with us on the Foothills parkway)

Addendum: Anyone checked rooms lately for the dates October 27 - 29, 2017?

ALL : Apologies, but due to the number of folks that have dropped out of this event (apparently only possibly 2 remain!) the AL/TN chapter is cancelling the VOA official version of this event. However, there is a Middle TN event that Joel has been organizing that is going to be this coming weekend (Oct 14/15). Alan should have emailed you all by now - Hope to see you there!
