2017 Carolinas VOA Tentative Event Schedule
MARCH - Zone Area Lunches: Leading off the 2017 events for the Carolinas are meet-and-greet luncheons for members at or near the following locations: Hickory/Charlotte; Raleigh; Winston Salem/Greensboro; Wilmington; Fayetteville/Goldsboro; Asheville/WNC; and Greenville/Spartanburg. The zone reps for these locations will coordinate and host the luncheons, hopefully in conjunction with a Cars & Coffee that morning or a scenic drive.
[Dates and restaurant locations will be posted on the Forum and/or via e-mail as determined.]
APRIL -1st - "Get Your Motor Running" V 4.0: This year’s GYMR will be hosted by Craig Jonson and Donna Gutterman at their residences in Raleigh. Between them we will have access to three lifts - and the great thing is they live right across the street from each other. This is a great time to meet the members of our club and socialize while conducting the annual maintenance so necessary for our Vipers to remain in peak performance. We will have all the necessary equipment to change your oil, differential, tranny, and clutch fluids. Even if you don't need any of this work, come and hang out with us. As an added bonus, Tom Sessions said he will also be in attendance if his schedule allows. Later, we will have dinner at a nearby restaurant. For those who are traveling a great distance, several members have guest rooms available if anyone wishes to spend the night and drive home Sunday.
MAY 20-21 - Wanna GoFast ½ Mile Event: Many members have shown interest in this incredible 2-day event being held May 20-21, 2017 at the Stanly County Airport in New London, NC, located about an hour northeast of downtown Charlotte. Find out what it’s like race without a speed restriction - definitely a Bucket List event if you own a Viper. The event is limited to the first 135 vehicles per day and is sure to sell out fast. Come as a participant or as a spectator, with registration for both starts on March 31, 2017 at 8AM eastern standard time.

JUNE 1-4 - Tail of the Dragon (National VOA Bucket List Event): Our region is again co-hosting the Tail of the Dragon (ToD) event this year with the AL/TN Region. For those of you who have never been to this event held in Gatlinburg, TN, this is an unforgettable experience. The ToD itself is one of the best drives in the country, with 318 curves in 11 miles of beautiful scenery on the NC/TN border. Not only is the ToD a great drive, but an awesome time to meet and socialize with a great group of people. Gatlinburg offers various attractions, a variety of foods, and an awesome nightlife. As this will be a VOA Bucket List event, we anticipate there will be between 125-150 Vipers in attendance. This will be the biggest event for both regions, so plan early to attend this long-weekend event.

JULY (Date to be Determined) Brian and Janelle have graciously offered to host a BBQ lunch for all club members at their residence. As we get closer to the event we will provide a date and time for this event.
AUGUST (Date to be Determined) - Vipers at the Beach: As traditions are often set in stone, it seems that one of ours is the annual trip to Myrtle Beach. Many of you have requested that we continue what has been a great trip for the past several years, so be it!
AUGUST (Date to be Determined) - 25th Anniversary of the Viper: The National VOA has stated that FCA requested our club’s participation in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Viper and the closing of the Viper production plant at Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, in Detroit MI.
SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER (Date to be Determined) - Vipers Invade the Hills of NC: We are trying something different for this time of year since Mother Nature did not want to cooperate with us previously when we scheduled events in Charleston. There is a small resort (Switzerland Inn) that several of our competing car clubs (Porsche/Jaguar/Ferrari, etc.) visit every year. It is nestled in the mountains of North Carolina near Spruce Pine. As well as many different room options to choose from, they offer a great dining experience. More important, however, are the great driving roads and other activities in the vicinity. We have planned a great drive on the Diamondback - similar to the Tale of the Dragon, but with fewer curves. We are also planning a tour of Linville Caverns, and then off to see Grandfather Mountain.

November 18 -Carolinas VOA Holiday Party: We will once again have our holiday party in Greensboro, NC as it is centrally located for most of our members. We have decided to have this year’s party at the same venue as last year’s location. The Print Works Bistro and the Proximity Hotel was very accommodating to our needs and it was great having our own private room for the event. We highly recommend reserving a room at the hotel and continue the socializing after the main event, which many of us regretted not doing so last year!
