View Full Version : Warranty Work questions

I have my car scheduled to drop my car off for a few warranty items this weekend. I confirmed all the parts are readily available so it shouldn't take more then a few days tops.
The only item they couldn't verify was the horn switch. According to the dealer it appears to be part of the airbag system. I know a few of you guys have had this issue and was just curious if it involved swapping the whole airbag unit? It only has this issue when the car is very warm so replicating it will be hard in the winter. I just pulled the fuse to solve the problem until I could get it taken care of. Is the a common enough problem they will just replace it?
Also I have a arrow ecu. I didn't take it out when I carried it in for the r28/29 test but given all the grief people have been getting should i remove it for the visit? From my understanding once the arrow is programmed they are both pug and play correct?

I'd take it off if you think they are going to flash the PCM to minimize the chance of someone screwing up.
Fortunately I take my car to Viper Exchange and don't have to worry about taking the controller out. But I do bring the stock one when they work on my car, just in case. The whole warranty/ Arrow PCM thing has improved so hopefully your dealer doesn't give you a hard time.

i trust very FEW dealers to change oil, forget anything complicated.

Agree seems much harder to get a good dealer actually do work on a car with no mods and warranty. To be safe remove it but I do not know how it works on vipers or if they can tell it was on there etc.

I guess I'll just swap it out to be safe. It is just plug and play correct?
As for the work the dealership I work with is small but appears does good work. They are excited to work on the car and have an intelligent tech. These cars aren't rocket science to work on.

Yes, plug and play. Search for the original thread or you could call Andy at Viper Exchange. I haven't swapped mine out yet but I think I remember seeing that you have to disconnect the battery.

I've looked at all the threads I could find but got a few mixed answers. I remember having to disconnect the battery. I'll dig out the original instructions and see what they say. I just figured someone might know off the top of their head.

They replaced the whole steering wheel on my 2013 to fix the horn issue. What a freakin' embarrassment that was in stop and go traffic!

Tell me about it. It only happened a handful of times before i just pulled the fuse.

I have the horn issue on my 13 as well. Diagnosed last week and the parts should be in by the end of this week. It seemed like a bunch of the Gen V's had this problem. They have to swap out the horn switch in the airbag pack and also a right side switch of some sort for that problem.

Not sure if I would swap the PCM out or not but it couldn't hurt. The horn is part of the airbag though.
