View Full Version : Has anyone painted the central portion of inside of the front hood on their ACR E

I know of course that the reason the ACR-E has no front cladding on the hood is for weight reduction etc. However it does look rather unfinished and was wondering if anyone has painted it black and even, rather than the way it looks now. If so what paint did you use?

My GTC came with the sound deadening installed. Covers up the part that looks crappy.

I like the unfinished look to be honest.
If I were to paint it, I would use some high temp paint just in case, you know, like caliper paint. Then again, I would assume that the stuff has to be primed first.

I'm not sure how much the sound deadening material is to install (probably not cheap), but it really does make the hood look like a finished product so if you don't feel like it looks finished I would probably avoid painting it and just add the insulation to the bottom of the hood. Down sides would be cost and weight if you use the car for racing.

Well I do like the fact that it is bare with the associated weight saving and think the liner is a bit too much for me. However they could have at least put a lick of paint to finish it off! I see if I can find some high temp plastic paint, as the central portion is plastic and not CF..

Even if you wanted to buy a liner (not expensive) it would be damaged before it even arrived. We tried replacing one and I ordered it 4 times before they made a crate the 5th time to get it here in one piece. I'll bet they still just send them out in the bag.

What about covering it in heat gold or silver reflective foil? Like they do on lots of Exocits?

The thing is if you put gold or foil you are reflecting heat and so why would I want to reflect the heat back into the engine bay?

Surely you would only be deflecting heat away from that particular area and if the car is moving the heat from the top of the engine would be deflected out under the car? It would only be when the car was stationary that the hood as it currently is would be soaking up that heat. If you put deflector shield foil on the hood in the central area it might help exterior paint long term? I don't know, it was just a thought :)

I had the same issue. The 4th time it finally made to the dealship in one undamaged piece. I am glad I did it finishes the engine compartment. Unless you are heading to the Ring the few pounds will never be noticed.

Ok I got her masked, sanded down, and cleaned! That took the most time!! I'm sure the paint will be the easy bit. That's for tomorrow. Stay tuned...

I've gotten "9" already all in a bag and of course all damaged. Don't now what else to do. Painting it is sounding like a good idea. :(

Ok I finished it. It came out more grey than black, but it appears from online reading that a lot of the High temperature paints do that it seems. I put 4 coats on it-it sprays on thinly. Anyway its not perfect I know but I think a darn sight better than before and I'm happier! Btw still very slighty blotchy as it takes quite a while to cure this paint and it needs to be done with heat-so some bits slightly slower to dry properly. Weathers been crap so I haven't been able to to take her out thus far, but will do in a few days.
