View Full Version : Induction: Has anyone ever had the K&N Typhoon intake tubes done in carbon fiber?

I'm wondering if anyone has "upgraded" their K&N Typhoon intake with carbon fiber tubes in place of the aluminum tubes that come with the kit? I'm interested in this mostly for aesthetic reasons of course. I can't see a real weight advantage or anything like that.

I have both carbon fiber pieces and polished pieces under my hood. So I figure I could either get these tubes polished or have them remade in carbon fiber for a better aesthetic blend. Thought I'd check here first to see if it has been done before.

Thanks!

if anything you will lose HP, but get more of a growl from the engine. A lot of time was spent making the paper filter the most efficient one out there.

Appreciate the quick reply. To clarify, I'm not talking about changing anything about the filter of the Typhoon intake. I'm only talking about changing the tubes to carbon fiber or polishing the tubes that came with the kit. I've already purchased the kit and have it on good word that it provides benefit, especially in combination with my Mopar ECU. But right now I'm only asking about whether anyone has polished the tubes or had them redone in carbon fiber. Thanks!

I would assume anything is possible with painting or wrapping those. I don't think it would hurt anything

Ok Was just wondering if anyone had done the c/f translation of the tubes so save some effort and $$$$ if the casting already existed for someone to produce more. Might be easier/cheaper to just get these polished. I might wrap the airbox in some 3m c/f-look vinyl that i have laying around to see how it comes out.

The Viper already comes with a great cold air intake. I bet it's just like BlknBlu say's, better sound, less HP.

While I value your opinions, respectfully, this thread is not about Typhoon vs OEM airbox performance specs nor do I want to go down that road. I'm only asking about options for replacing the K&N Typhoon tubes with carbon fiber items vs polishing the tubes that come in the kit. So far the feedback is leaning towards polishing. If anyone has pursued either of these options I would be very interested in seeing pics or getting referrals to whom did the work. Thanks!

Wouldn't the carbon fiber tube "resonate" better then the polished.? Probably look better if you like the polished cf look.

Honestly I haven't even thought of how the different materials would impact the induction sound. Interesting question.
