View Full Version : Anyone put GTS bimode suspension on a base SRT

I have a '13 base SRT and considering upgrading to the Gts bimode suspension. I read one thread that talked about it but was wondering if anyone has actually done it. What is really required? I know shocks, control module, and console switch for sure but anything else? Are there mounts for the shock reservoirs already there? I was also told there might be a problem because the GTS's have a different body controller configuration than Srt's (not sure what this means).
Thanks for any info.

There are a few that have done it. I have thought about it but have not done it yet. I go back and forth on if I just want bimode TA setup with lowering caps or just keep saving for the Tractive.
Your spot on with your parts list. The mounting holes are pre installed into the frame in the rear and into the front wheel wells for the fronts. Just might have to hunt down bolts but that's a simple trip to Home Depot.
And it should be all plug and play. All the wiring is there. I think just make sure the key is off when you plug the module in and the car will automatically recognize it.

Following. Definitely interested in any other details. I likely won't be able to afford a GTS when the time comes to buy a Gen V, but I'd definitely like to install the Bi-mode suspension. I don't how much it all costs from Dodge. Maybe finding a car for partout would be best, if one could even be found.

Buying the parts directly from Dodge is expensive you might as well save your money and buy the Tractive. Your best bet for this swap is to find someone who has installed a set of the Viper Exchange Tractive suspension and wants to sell the factory setup. They only thing needed directly from Dodge would be the switch panel being that the Tractive suspension still uses the factory switch panel.
And don't quote me because I could be way off but I think it has been mentioned the switch bank is about $700 give or take a little.
In fact I hate to say this because I have been thinking about buying his setup but I am so undecided so I am on hold but KB Viper is selling is factory GTS bi mode with controller for $1k

Thanks for the info.
I did see kb's ad but have not decided if I'm going to make the change.
Is the race mode on the Gts suspension any better than the Srt suspension for tracking or autocross?
I know the street mode will be more comfy than the base Srt suspension which is pretty stiff.

How they perform on the track vs the base SRT suspension I can not answer. But I have street driven a few GTS models and I can tell you that the GTS in race mode is stiffer than the SRT base suspension. At least to me it feels stiffer.

The SRT suspension is in between the two GTS modes in terms of stiffness.

Theres plenty of gts's cheaper and less miles than some srt's

hopefully Andy will chime in as VE has put tractive in a SRT, only needing the switches/buttons on the dash. he said all the wiring was there.

Just make sure you drive a GTS to ensure that you prefer that set-up enough to warrant the cost and effort.

I decided not to try and upgrade to Gts bimode suspension because it sounds like it's not as simple as I thought. My friend asked an Srt Engineer and he confirmed that I would have to reconfigure the body controller to a Gts for the shocks to work. I'm not even sure what that means but it scared me off. Just gonna keep it with the Srt suspension.
Thanks for everyone's input.

I think it's just a software reconfiguration so the car's computer knows about the "new" suspension modes and that it should change the shock stiffness when the button is pressed. Not a very big deal.

you would just swap in the computer that the suspension comes with. 4 10mm nuts and 2 wire clips next to the battery. might add 2mins to install at end.

The VE active setup does in fact interface perfectly with the factory single mode cars whether they are SRT's or ACR's. The factory body control module if you are in fact going to swap the factory version over are still a little bit of a mystery. Yes everything is plug and play exactly like the VE Tractives but I am not sure if swapping the body control module will work on the SRT's. With the Tractives we supply a new control box called a DSC Sport that works on everything.
You would need the dampers, HVAC surround with Bi Mode buttons and the body control module for the trunk.

I have a like new set of TA Shocks, Springs and the control module if anyone is interested. I had it listed in the classified section, pm me if you are interested. Less than 3,000 miles, I went with the tractive suspension.

Has anyone successfully done this yet? I hare put everything into my Srt and when I push the buttons on the dash nothing happens

Wonder if you have to have a flash upgrade to the stereo/screen display in order for the vehicle to recognize the module so that the switch is activated... or maybe there is a 15 Amp fuse... I will look at a few things in the service manuals tomorrow.

Did anyone get the bimode shocks to successfully work in a SRT? A friend (Kuwaiti) did the plug and play route, even swapped in the GTS control module but it’s not working. Is there extra steps to get this to work?

From my vehicle build and what I know:
1) Your electrical systems (wiring) is there to get bi-mode installed.
2) You need to purchase the bi-mode controller.
3) You need to purchase the bi-mode face-plate (Climate Controller Bezel).
4) You will have to have an FCA Dealer perform an uplink to FCA:
a) Your car may go into limp mode for an unrecognized controller installed
b) You cannot use (which I have a major issue with) another controller that was VIN'd to another vehicle - I believe this is why my car went into limp mode because when I installed my other controller the car had no more flags.
c) Nearly every electronic part in your vehicle was coded to your VIN at the factory (PCM, Speedo, Radio, Amp, Bi-mode Controller, SRS Module and god knows what else)
I can provide pictures of the parts if you need me to.
