View Full Version : Question for those that have had an engine replaced

I ordered DSE Intake head shield, Bellanger headers, and all the items needed to install. Prior to install I decided to have my oil analyzed just incase I am on the verge of failure. Some Aluminum and Iron numbers were on the higher side which they say could be normal for a young engine still breaking in.
I am curious:
Has anyone who lost an engine had headers installed? What was said by dealership/FCA on those mods...if anything?
Did any of the 3 Arrow PCM incidents also have headers?
I alreadyhave the arrow PCM..... and will have headers. I know I'm increasing my risk of denial with each mod I do, but I am wondering how headers have been treated on past blown engines.
When I lost my engine I only had high flow cats installed. Nothing was said to me about them, but that's a pretty minor mod compared to what I will have.

Ben, personally, I wouldn't risk it. You've seen the fight the others had to go through. My $0.02.

Until the consensus is that FCA will treat each failure case by case with an actual cause and effect determined, I would be hard-pressed to modify a Gen V that is under warranty.

Yeah....I know you are one of the most conservative owners on the forum. Which is very smart! I unfortunately really enjoy modifying my cars...
I already have arrow installed and honestly worst case scenario, I would return the exhaust to stock before towing to a dealer. Still curious what history will tell us on exhaust mods.

Trust me....I completely understand people that would not modify their cars. I know the risks and you are very smart to stay stock..... but it's not what I am asking in this thread.

I'm actually impressed that they didn't try and crucify you just for the hi-flo's. At the point you're at now I personally think you mine as well go for it, like you said you can return the exhaust back to stock, you already have the traceable mod in the car....

If you already have the Arrow PCM installed you might as well install the headers. You've already technically given them grounds to void the warranty should the motor fail due to the Arrow PCM.
If your one who enjoys modifying your cars it's going to be very difficult not to. It was for me while owing my GEN V. Life's too short to drive a stock car lol.

I would be curious as well. I wondered if just headers would void a warranty and worst case go to stock before going in but im not sure headers alone would add as much as header/tune? Is there any vendors that sell a set of hi flows ready to mount to factory headers so we can remove that second cat add some new mufflers without cutting the factory set up and get some better sound and avoid the heat issue on the rocker?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. New engine installed and I've sent 1 oil sample for analysis. I've installed a catch can but have ARH in the garage waiting to be installed and plan on getting VE's titanium exhaust and the DSE's intake shield. I will however wait until I get a few samples through blackstone to get a warm and fuzzy.
I don't know how much difference is going to make where you have an Arrow PCM but I'd wait and run another oil analysis in 500-1000 miles and see where things are at before installing headers. Down the road after the install if the engine breaks you could always pull the headers off, install the factory exhaust and no one would be the wiser at a dealer.

With the Arrow PCM, you have some negotiating possible if the motor is bad... with the headers probably not. Then again, you can always return it to stock.

Mod her up, drive her, feed her good fluids and enjoy the mods. Those are quality pieces and if it enhances your happiness and driving experience there is no reason to worry about the warranty. Life is too short to worry about what might not happen. The car could outlive us, so I say enjoy the car. I wouldn't hesitate if the PCM already is on. To me, the standalone PCM is all risk no reward. The headers and tune really wake the car up.

Why yes there is the PartsRack/Belanger Hi-Flow Cats/Catbacks. I have these on my car and couldn't be happier. No cutting, no welding, a ready to bolt in system. search this thread: PartsRack/Belanger Hi-Flow Cats/Catbacks

Ha! For me, this Viper has more power, and is way more capable stock than I am capable than driving. I enjoy it for what it is!

This is my mentality, but unfortunately for all of us the mystery of how solid our engine is and what FCA will do for us will always be on the back of our minds.
