I thought the last suit comment was great. Those welds are a bit worrisome...

I'm pretty sure it's "Viper enough" for me!

You have to realize this is coming from a guy who charges $150,000 for a Toyota Landcruiser.

I will agree with him on the welds. These cars have the worst workmanship in welding I've seen on a modern day car. My 2000 ACR has the same low quality welds. It's really strange to me that this was never addressed. Clearly these frames are proof that robotic welding is a much better choice than a drunk, don't give a #$%& welder.

A) Yeah those (and my) welds are garbage.

B) Apparently the concept of a good handling well balanced street drivable track monster goes over their head.

C) I'm surprised he could see out of the front windshield the way he had the steering wheel tilted so far up like that. It probably felt like driving a race tractor.

You can tell the two of them have no business being around a Viper when they are complaining about cast arms, "the guy who sketched the car" and then the door handle functionality that has been the same for... ever... Along with hood release cable location, underbelly pans, and the drone and lack of punch when you don't even rev the damn thing out to redline.

I could make a sandwich inbetween those shifts. "Not Viper enough" Pa....lease...

Let's see him build better for the same price.

If you're going to criticize something at least know wtf you are doing with it in the first place. That iPhone flashlight was perfect.

Too many of these reviewers simply don't understand the mission of the Viper. Some complain its too raw, too hot, too hard to get into, whatever. Other complain it isn't raw enough they want it to be like the original Gen 1 with no windows, AC, decent stereo, etc. Bunch of bozos. I thought the review was going to be ok at first. "How did they get this car through a major manufacturer?" "How did they do it for $130K?" etc. Then it got to "the control arms look like they are off any Dodge product." etc.

These guys are the definition of "dilettante" - A person(s) prone to become mildly involved with or superficially interested in subjects instead of developing any specific skill or knowledge. Often used to describe amateur or wanna-be artists. Or car "reviewers" on social media.

I'd rather they were. The man is an aesthete...I get that.

At the end of the day I thought he was quite generous...kept saying how he had no idea how they offered so much for the money. Was very complimentary of the design and the interior fit and finish as well.

How come we can never get a good review of the car?

How come we can never get a review of the car by someone who actually owns a Viper?

They NEVER talk about what the Viper excels at. Only its flaws.

Total Bullshit.

Dodge needs to quit sending stripped cars. The reviews are always the same, and these pansies want the sound deadening and stereo, why not give it to them?

What are you talking about? He mentioned the car has too much grip with over 640 horsepower....oh wait, he meant that as a flaw -_-

He does have a point about the welds. Some of the stuff I've seen under the car when it's on my lift is pretty horrendous.
And the door handles drive me nuts, lol. I'm always leaving smudges on the car. On a GTS-R blue car they are very apparent, on a white, silver, or lighter color car you wouldn't see them.

I actually never thought of that. The car will probably have to go back to have the hood clearbra replaced in February. It's already chewed up from one weekend at Sebring. So I'll have my clearbra guy try this.
Thanks!

I thought it was a decent review until he complained about it not being Viper enough. It was as raw as the gen 1 he would have complained about it not evolving. The comment about all pieces being a work of art on a Pagani was stupid. Sure for a million bucks I'd want that too. For $130k I just expect performance which is what we got. The welds did look bad.

At the end of the day, I love this car for all its great qualities and even it's few flaws. There is just nothing like it and I'm glad to own one of the last.

I was shocked when he said "it wasn't viper enough". I've owned a Gen 2 and driven all the other Gens like many others here. They absolutely hit a home run with the Gen 5 in terms of blending performance, modern luxuries, and driving experience/engagement. Both these guys are tools.

I'll have to stop watching reviews of the Viper and accept that there is clearly something wrong with ME.

I see a company build a car (ACR variants) purely for true club racers and track rats that happens to be street legal yet has been at head of the field in actual competition.

Then I watch "auto experts" pick it apart and exaggerate aspects of the car that weren't even within the scope of the design.

FCA addresses some of these experts concerns while making the car even quicker still and this icon complains it's not Viper enough because it hooks up well on the street, even in first gear......

I think if you put him in a GTS he would have liked the "drive" better. Crying about drone in a race car sounds silly.

Haha that's great.

I wonder if the common perception would be different if FCA sent a GTS model along with an ACR model for the auto media?

It seems as though they are totally unaware that any Viper can be ordered and outfitted to whatever the owner's desire is.

I'm sure you guys all realize this is a "standard" Viper review. The kind we've had for years. The give begrudging praise, but generally dislike it otherwise.

However, I must agree with them on those welds.

The best way I can choose to look at this is that they wanted to see how Dodge made a car that beats everything on the track for $130k and then proceed to pick things out that are not up to par with $500k+ cars. They do have some compliments mixed in with the critisism but the whole thing comes off as a bit snobbish. Tough to argue some things couldn't be better but you have to realize what price point you are working in. It is sometimes frustrtating when people are misinformed about a car we are knowledgable about, but not everyone can be an expert. I can't really disagree, if I decided to start from scratch I'd make everything from billet aluminum, titanium, and carbon too but at $150k I'd have 1/5 of a car.

Well, I suppose the review duped us all in the end. It got them clicks, which is how they make their money. They probably don't care whether you love or hate the review, as long as you watch it. In fact, they probably get more clicks by putting a review like this out there which is probably intended to stir the pot a little to get the 'number of views' quota.

If the ACR had a Porsche badge, they'd fall over themselves to say how raw and pure of an experience it is.

Even wankers like Harris who bemoan the loss of "raw" experiences like the Viper did a whole 1 minute video on the most insane performing car ever.

Par for the course.

My guess is these guys are planning a Viper that will be built with the highest quality parts and labor.

Realize who they are and what they do and it's easy to see their perspective - again it's just a guess but a like Porsche Singer build of the Viper could be what they have planned.

That would be insane! And all the awesome!

The thing about the RS or R (both of which don't appeal to me that much and I've owned GT3s...5 911s total) is that the build quality is indisputably industry leading. I mean they are NICELY made.

At least he didn't call it a kit car...

Why, because some kit cars have better finishing? (I joke...not really ;-)

Don't get me wrong...I'm very much looking forward to my ACR and I think (as they mentioned) the interior is actually first rate. The exterior finishing of paint and carbon is also first rate.

They look old enough.... back in the day I wonder how much they whined and complained about the original Cobra not having a top, windows and those huge side pipes trying to burn their legs.....bet they would love to have one of those original unrefined Cobra's now! Now I'm going to go back in the warehouse and look at my triple black beast....
