Here is the link to part 1 of 3 in an article covering Viper race history. This section lists the accomplishments of the original GTS-R which are hard to fathom. The service history and worldwide success of the original platform are possibly unmatched in GT racing.

Part 3 is up and I'm sure it will educate many about something they hadn't seen prior.

That's really interesting because I knew Zakspeed had V-8 Vipers in their mix, but didn't realize that they had plugged two cylinders in the OE block and that it was done to get around the rules. Clearly the Viper was the top dog and other manufacturers were looking for ways to shut the GTSR down. The other crazy thing is that the car was so successful in Europe. It clearly did not enjoy the heroic status here, well because most Americans love NASCAR and not road racing. Who knows if that had been different here the car may have been much more successful here in the consumer market. It would be interesting to pick the brain of the average Euro race fan's thoughts on the Viper vs. the average American race fan. I'm guessing very different thoughts.

Interesting point. I've always heard the Europeans loved the car in those glory days yet for some reason the ACO didn't want the Viper back at Le Mans in 2016.
