Hi everybody,

I'm new to the forum. I recently sold my C6 Z06 making around 515 HP to the wheels to upgrade to a gen 5 viper. Since childhood I've always wanted a viper and now I'm saving up for one.

I'm aware of the sprung bearing issue with these motors already as I've been reading a lot on this forum and other viper forums.

I do have some questions hopefully you guys can answer.

1.) I'm a short guy (5'1) and I'm leaning towards the GT/GTS due to the power seats. LOL Does anybody know if I'll be able to drive it? I'm aware of the adjustable pedals, but I'm not sure if the seats can be adjusted up for height. Also does the viper come with memory seats?

2.) What is the difference between the GT and GTS models? Pros and cons? I know the SRT and TA don't offer power seats and the nicer interiors so I'm not looking into those.

3.) Does all the GTS models offer 18 speakers or 12 speakers?

4.) Lastly my vette doesn't turn as much heads, so I'm hoping the viper will cure that. LOL

Thank you everybody.

#4)The viper will turn heads. My buddies Z06 becomes invisible when he rolls with me. Always a crowd around the viper at cars and coffee.

I'm surprised you were able to get a photo with that many people around your vehicle. They're absolutely swarming it like bees to honey!

Power seats aren't really necessary. Once you have the seat position set you never need to change it.

Very true - but when someone gets into your $100k super car and sees manual seats it's kinda funny. But hey, it's a viper(response for everything).

My wife is 5'2" and she can drive my GTS without a problem. Seats adjust fine for her. 18 speakers were optional at least my year.

Sorry but that cracked me up, the irony of the statement with a pic with the only people in it looking at the vette. Cmon, just a little funny?

Zee is correct despite the pic, my vipers have always gotten way more attention than I like. Seems 50% of the drive time you have someone taking a pic going down the road or striking up a convo when running to the store or gas station. And the attention seems very positive, compared to the sometimes negative L and F cars can get.

IMO, the GTS is just not better enough than a GT to worry about and I had a GTS with Laguna and all the options available. I'm not a stereo guy at all, but the 18 speaker is way worth the upgrade. I'm moving to a TA 2.0 myself, so from full power seats to manual, no matter again IMO, a viper buyer won't decide buy or not buy over the power vs manual seat and both adjust very well. Only issue can be lumbar support, which for some isn't ideal, but no adjustment on any model for that. My wife is 5'5" and I could adjust so she could move the car, she's never driven it but she could I'm sure.

Yes, I believe the GTS is standard with the 18 speaker still, it's mostly leather appointments, much a normal person would struggle to discern.

Good questions and good research, happy shopping.

Lol. The pic was to illustrate how the Vette looks bland compared to a viper when next to each other. Next time I go I'll be sure to post the crowd around ;)

Back to the OP - since the seats are a concern I highly recommend you try sitting in the base/TA model vs the few leather options available. I'm about 5'8", 180 pounds and found the leather seats not as comfortable as the base/TA seats. You will see many others echo the same thing: http://driveviper.com/forums/threads/9011-Love-my-Gen5-Hate-the-seats!-Gen3-4-Seats-in-a-Gen5/page2

Not saying you won't like the leather options but worth trying out for sure.

I think if you're an average build and 5'1 you'll be fine in the GTS seats. They're quite a bit tighter across the upper back if you're on the bigger side. So no GTS seats for me.

Id go test fit one, but with the vertical and fore and aft adjustment of the seat, plus the power pedals, I can't imagine it not working out for you.

Have you been in an SRT interior? They are all badass! I would recommend sitting in one before you write it off. Also the laguna interior has reputation for premature wear.

My wife is 5'2 and 105lbs and can drive my TA just fine. The seat adjusts up more than she needs, so you should be fine.

1) They will adjust just fine for you. I don't have the power seats since I have an ACR but even those can rise quite a bit, and the pedals will come towards you by quite a bit. I don't think the snake comes with memory seats, it's not a German car :)
2) The cars are essentially the same but I believe the GTS as better options over the regular GT, as well as specific paints
3) Don't know but my guess is that if you go on the SRT site, it should say
4) That is clear... Some Vette dude gave me the thumbs up the other day and on Thursday while I was going to work some dude driving a delivery truck took a video of my car for a good minute. He was following me :lame: I mean, really?

These cars will fit anyone from about 5'-0" to 6'-0" quite nicely (especially with the manual seats that do offer some more adjustment room vertically). For anyone over, say 6'-2", it's a crap shoot. If you're out of proportion tall above the waist, you will bang your head on the roof, have a hard time seeing traffic lights out the windshield, and a helmet is almost out of the question. I've never been able to fit in one without installing the seat lowering kit - and even then with a helmet on, you have to learn to ignore the occasional distraction of getting a head slam over a bump.

Otherwise, comfort is going to be the key. They're all nice inside, but some people prefer different seat types. I personally like the ballistic nylon the best, but the high-grip Alcantara in the ACR felt just fine to me. Never sat in one of the nice Laguna seats - but people who have tell me they're very comfortable after they've broken in a bit.

1. No memory seats in any trim. You don't need power seats. You won't miss a height adjustment. Anybody over 5'8" has to lower the seat to the floor anyway. The pedals are power so that helps.
2. GTS are available with Sepia interior. Beautiful hand-crafted leather interior. My GTS does not have the 18 speaker system weirdly.
3. My Viper is pretty much a celebrity wherever I go. Whether its a small town or a big city. I always get thumbs up, hoots and hollers. People want to stand beside it and take pics, sit in it... ect.

I love my car. I'm glad you got rid of the Vette ;)

Thank you everybody for the fast replied. I was out of town this weekend and just got back home this morning. I've read everybody's comment and I really appreciate the support on this forum.

I was able to get into a 2016 viper gts this weekend at a dodge dealership.

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/678074716/overview/

The interior is much tighter then my previous corvette, but I love how it wrap around you when you sit in it. The interior is simply amazing compare to the gen 3 viper (my brother currently has one). From the inside of the cockpit the viper feels small but when you step outside of the cockpit the viper looks so wide and mean. I love curves and these gen 5 vipers has more curves than Nicki Minaj's a$$. LOL

Given my weight and height the power seat is a must for me. LOL

Wished I knew a few local gen 5 viper owner(s) who's willing to offer me a ride in their GTS. I would love to know how this feels on the road compare to my vette.

to answer #2 it appears that the GTS has the 18 speaker stereo, Venom wheels(which many people trade up to the lighter Sidewinders at an additional cost anyways), power passenger seat, some extra Nappa leather bits, and a rear fascia in black. Is it worth the extra $12k?- not to me, but others might disagree.

SRT and GTS are similar in used prices. I rather pay a bit more and get all the nannies from the GTS. My understanding is that the GTS is more practical for everyday driving. Not that I'll be driving it every day.

On another note, being 5'1 i was surprised I hit my head getting into the driver seat. LOL. I don't know how you 5'5+ folks get in and out without hitting your head. LOL.

Yup. If buying used, the GTS are a great value.

The later model GT's (since the 1 of 1 program) are the tough to make comparisons with. They are chameleons and can be almost any spec (from ACR to GTS). For example, my GT is equipped as a GTS although it has GT badging. Good luck!

You do know that the manual seats also have a height adjuster? It is like a pump lever on the seat side. The manual seats in my TA adjust to the same positions as the power seats in my GTS. Again, once set no need to change. I do find the ballistic nylon in the TA to be more comfortable. Still need a small pillow for the lower back as the uprights on the seats are simply not designed correctly, there is a "hole" behind your lower back. You can see it looking at the seat. The seat back meets the bottom about 6 inches off the bottom and slightly forward. Causes a hole in the lower back/lumbar area.
