Just a quick poll really to assess what people use when they take car on the track. I haven't really got onto the the track yet with my ACR-E and won't until beginning of March, but would like to know what stability setting or not people use on the track. I have heard that in track setting when pushed hard the rear brake pads are used quite a bit more when pushed hard even though the track setting is not so intrusive, but at the end of the day driving with everything turned off car is still manageable. I mean I have an old 993 RS clubsport that I drive on track and push quite hard and that has no stability controls just seat of pants to tell you-very accurately- where the limits are. I'm hoping the ACR is similar albeit with more power-but higher limits ultimately. Opinions?.

If it is dry I turn my settings "Full Off". If it is wet I might leave it on. If it were really wet I would leave it on "Full On" or maybe even "Rain" otherwise I might go for "Sport" or "Track".

I've only had my car out one weekend so far and ran it in "Sport" mode. To be honest, the chassis control systems on this car seem to be very generous and don't seem to interfere with how "I" drive the car. I like to use throttle a little to steer the car and I'll bring out the rear with it a little but not overly so. In "Sport", it didn't kill the party at all.
By way of comparison, it was impossible for me to drive a C7 Z06 in "Race" mode without entering the PTM settings. The car would detect wheel slip and apply brakes and kill power all around the track to the extent that I'd have to move way off line on one of the straights and get into PTM.

I use track mode on a TA with Corsa tires and it's imperceptible when dancing on the limit. I suspect all models would be very similar. No advanced rear pad wear that I can tell.

I track with everything full on and have no problem doing well against others in our region. I've only had it step in 2-3 times when I'm too aggressive in a tight turn so it's doing it's job just fine for my driving style. And if that extra safety net costs me some tenths occasionally but keeps me on track it's worth it to me.

When i ran the 1/2 mile event my first run I ran the FULL ON setting. By the end of the run all the nanny lights came on, and the Viper went into limp mode.

Freaked out.

Turned car off.

Turned car on.

No more lights. Ran rest of the day with traction full OFF. No issues since

You might be really smooth and wouldn't hurt your lap times much but I just wanted add "Full On" changed it a lot more than occasional tenths for me.

My suspension only has one setting, track, just have to decide if i want stability on or off :)

Did you notice the difference in braking or elsewhere? Braking is one area I'm just not happy with, it feels like ABS is too aggressive and makes my braking distance worse and sometimes unreliable. Does anyone know if the stability control settings change ABS at all?

I don't believe stability effects ABS calibration. Tire size changes can though. Also if you look at some of the threads posted by Racing Brakes you will see that extensive testing they've done with a race team confirmed the rear ABS kicks in too quickly. Most will notice this as a rear end wiggle under braking. Racing Brakes offers calipers with smaller rear pistons that cures this problem. I have them on my TA and they work great - much more confidence under braking now.

Could others confirm or not whether they also sense this Wiggle?

On the ACR, I've never felt it interfere with what I'm trying to do on the track. I can slide the rear around tight turns as much as I want and have never felt the car kick in and that's with it full on.
On my '13 Track Pack car (they had a unique stability control system), I feel the car correct when sliding the rear to the point where I'm close to spinning.
There's an SRT video with Erich Heuschele talking about how they along with Bosch designed the system to not interfere with the driver unless it's to really save your ass.
I'd say you'll be a lot faster with everything left on. Confidence=Fast.

I haven't felt this. But to be honest, I'm not yet pushing the car too hard. That'll come next time out at Sebring in late-January.

The ACRs (both carbon ceramic brake cars and steel brake cars) have a different ABS configuration to account for the downforce of the aero. I've not driven one so I can't comment on the rear end wiggle. However, plenty of us have felt it in non-ACR cars. Several of us actually spoke to the SRT engineers about it in New Orleans. The engineers confirm it happens due to the 4 channel ABS (new for the Gen 5) and the diff pump pushing torque back and forth. While they say "just ride it out", it scares the hell out of some of us when it happens because you are usually going very fast and are hard on the brakes. Racing Brakes attributes the wiggle to too much rear brake bias which causes the rear ABS to kick in before the front. Given the 4 channel ABS in the Gen 5 each rear tire now tries to do its own thing. In the Gen 3/4 the rears acted in concert.

I would start out in track mode just to get a good feel for the car and how it behaves. You can still swap ends in Track mode but you really have to be ignoring what the car is trying to tell you and either over correct or fail to correct at all. It won't correct itself like some other cars. Track mode in the Viper is very non intrusive and I doubt that you'll be able to tell that it is intervening unless you are doing something wrong. The E is very neutral and does exactly what you tell it, right or wrong. It will give you plenty of feedback before it bites though. I do go full off once I get comfortable with new tracks. Biggest adjustment for me was the carbon brakes as they are light years ahead in both performance and feel than the steelies on my TA. The E likes to brake much later and much harder. This also helps with the understeer and allows the car to turn in much quicker allowing you to go back to crazy throttle settings mid corner as the rear of this thing sticks like glue.

I don't have a lot of seat time in it yet and am not the fastest driver but my experience so far has been to go with "Nannies Off" or it uses the rear brake pads up prematurely. Even so the pads don't last very long.

The wiggle is more like the rear end waving around. It's fine. Made me laugh the first time I drove it as it reminded me of an Ariel Atom I had some seat time in. Suspension changes coupled with sticky tires and it went away.

You won't need to run this car with nannies on coming from the car you have experience in. They are actually really easy to drive and get a reputation as being otherwise for reasons unknown to me. It's an incredible car!!

Where are you going in March?

I run my ACRE very hard at the track in both track and full stunt man mode. I usually run in track mode isn't the morning until my body and brain are back in the game, and then turn everything off in the afternoon. I prefer full off as I don't want the computers getting in my way. I am 2.66 seconds away from Dodges track lap record at my home track for reference as to laptop times. I don't have ant wiggle issues on my ACRE, unlike what I have in my TA or even worse in my GTS.. ACRE is well settled in that department.

I run with everything off. Brakes are amazing and there is no wiggle on the ACR-E. Track Mode if I am learning a new track.

I think you pretty well echo what my take is on this. But I'll see how things pan out on the track. Silverstone is my first outing March 6th so looking forward to that!

Goodness as I would be looking forward to that track as well. I was hoping you were going to say Virginia International Raceway in Danville, Virginia as that's where we will be in March.

For me cars are simply the means to an end, that end being my own personal enjoyment out on a race track. This particular wonderful car happens to provide that enjoyment brilliantly for me and in large doses!!

A good friend, a Brit who will be jealous to learn of your planned excursion to Silverstone in a Viper, owns the #27 ACR-X and will be with us at VIR. While not Silverstone we still will have an awesome time!!

Where are you located? What other tracks will you go to?

For the 911 enthusiast in you a little quiet lap of SPA. I am sure you have seen it. If he ever drives an ACR I am guessing he can leave the nannies off.

Indeed I have taken my 993RS to Spa a couple of times already and its always a thrill. I look forward to Spa with the Viper in May as well!. I'm situated in London and there are a few tracks within 2-3 hours of London and of course there are also the European ones to go to as well. So plenty of choice. Looking forward to a great 2017! I am sure I will build up to no nannies with the ACR too....

My advise would be keep everything on and learn the same track at least 5 times over before you think of turning anything off. The nanies in this car is amazing when pushed to the limits. I don't consider myself professional driver but this is my two cents tip.
