Looking to purchase some new rubber for my stock 17" rims on my 1997 GTS. A quick search on the Internet didn't reveal anything. Looking for new date-coded tires only. Is my only option to purchase 18" rims? How are people going to keep these machines running as a stock vehicle?

Good luck with 18". Nothing much for that rim size either. I need new 18" rubber and I am hoping by the spring that there may be some options available again.

TireRack has REAR 17" PS2($514) and P Zero($632), NO FRONTS!

18s are tough, but you can get a set of BFG Rival S tires, Toyo R888s, Pirelli P Zero Corsas to name three of the few. Some others have discontinued their larger size ( we need for the rear tires ), so as noted selection does get thin.

Thank you for the above information. What's strange is that I have my '97 GTS as a saved vehicle in the TireRack website, but those tires didn't display when I clicked on my vehicle. The only tires that displayed were the Hoosier A7 and DOT Drag Radial 2.

Same thing happened to me. I contacted them as I had heard there would be some available soon. When you look up the tire size they show up!

Spoke to TireRack about this. What they told me is if you have a vehicle saved on their website and you look-up tires for it, the site will not display a particular tire as available unless they have a fitment for both the front and rear. Since both the PS2 and P Zero are only available for the rear (in the 17" stock rim size), they do not show up on a search via vehicle type.
I also mentioned how I was a bit surprised about the lack of availability of rubber to fit the stock 17" front rims. He told me at this point I am stuck. Another tire manufacturer may see the need to make the stock sizing for Viper owners. He's seen this issue with Corvettes and Porsche's. It may be some time though before someone comes along with something.

Look for 285/40-17". They have some in that size. Or upgrade to 99-02 wheels(18") or SRT wheels(18/19)

I have a set of Gen 2 18's. Painted black. If interested.
I bought a set of Gen 4 ACR wheels from 99RT10 last spring for this same reason. I wanted to go back to Michelins and non available in 18.

That's so funny because I have a set of 10 spokes powder coated for sale too:
