View Full Version : Question for the Dodge dealers Extended warranty

Guys and gals;

Amazingly enough, with a little good fortune it looks like I really may be in a position to finally pull the trigger on a GEN V (cash) to add to my stable. I have been considering used SRT GEN V GTSs (prices seem okay and initial depreciation hits have been taken). Found a real nice and clean 2014 GTS with under 10k miles which is pretty loaded up with every option available (except Stryker paint), all factory set up and was only flagged and passed successfully the R29. It was never flagged for R28. All warranty items have been complete. Full service history, one owner car. If this scenario takes place and the corporation talking to me buys my wireless communications business, then I am in the position to finally add another snake (will be keeping the 96' as well).

So my question is since Dodge extended the full factory bump to bumper warranty on certain flagged Vipers to 10 years, did they also provide or could they also provide an extended warranty option to other Viper owners in those years to pay for and add an extended warranty out to 10 years on their Vipers as well? They are already doing it for certain Vipers due to their own reasoning so why not offer it as an extended warranty Maxcare type of thing for any other Viper owner in those same years. I bet a number of owners would want to pony up the money for piece of mind. If this all comes together I would like that option.

Now with this 2014 GTS I am looking at, if my M&A goes through for my company, I will be asking the dealer to provide two things:

1. Blackstone analysis of the oil in the car. Just in case damage was done due to low oil in it's past. I don't know but seems like a fair question to ask.
2. Certification letter from a Dodge dealership that there has never been an arrow controller in the car in it's past, thus future warranty is in tact and that there will be no issues on warranty due to the whole Arrow thing.

Any other advice or things I would need from the dealer or Dodge to cover myself on this purchase from a warranty or other issue? I realize there is risk in purchasing a used car, but trying to be smart about it.

Also would be good information for our community if someone could get back as to if there is an option for FCA automatic extended warranties (10 years) to be allowed to be purchased by Viper owners who did not qualify for those given warranties. This car I am looking at did not qualify, which is great as it appears it may not be an issue car but bad as it would be nice to have the piece of mind of a 10 year warranty, incase god forbid something does go wrong in my possession.

Thank you

Okay thank you, that helps clear it up as I was in error on the bumper to bumper aspect. Let me then rephrase the question, is there a way to add factory extended warranty for the powertrain, all the way up to the same 10 years that some of those specific early Vipers were then given by Dodge recently?

No, you can only get 8 years from in service date.

I would be more worried about if this used car had an Arrow Controller installed vs the r28 and r29 issues.

Thanks guys!

Clay, will be in touch on the extended warranty aspect, if everything comes together. I may also be looking at picking up the only option it looks like it is missing, which is the Carbon Fiber X-Brace. Everything else on it is "carbon optioned" to the hilt from the factory build sheets.

Pretty excited as I was not expecting this strike of business luck this late in the year.

1) They def won't do an oil lab analysis. You're smoking good reefer if you really think any dealer is going to do that for you
2) The arrow controller thing sounds great but I doubt they will do that either, and if they do, prob won't even check or verify anything, also won't mean anything in case something bad happens.

Other than that, I say go for it!

Aren't you a ray of sunshine! Anyway, those are my requirements to justify a purchase given the issues some have had with these. Why would anyone not require that? Blackstone analysis and verification no Arrow has ever been on it prior. Don't believe this is out of line with this Gen of Viper.

Good luck getting a dealer to change the oil, bottle it up and pay thirty bucks to ship it to Blackstone for analysis hoping it meets your approval a week later.

Have to agree with others here - will be tough to get a dealer (outside of someone like Woodhouse, etc) to take an oil sample for you. If you think this is the car for you, you may have to pay for the oil change yourself (on a car you haven't bought yet) and get your own sample and send it off to Blackstone.

I have no problem paying for the oil change on a car I have not bought in order to have a small portion sent off to Blackstone for piece of mind on the internals. It is probably cheaper than the VOA membership some of you seem too cheap to lay out money for (Swexlin excluded)! I will also have to fly out East to see it first hand before laying out $80k+.

Will call the dealer on Monday and see what they are willing to do. Car has been for sale for quite a while and it is snowy in their location. Chances are they will be a little more desperate to work with someone and sell versus the thought of sitting on it over all winter or big discounts mid-winter.

Good luck, hopefully this could be the 'one'. I know you've been wishing for a long time.

Some people just aren't joiners, but since YOU brought it up yet again. I buy NEW Vipers to support the brand which probably helped them a bit more than your hundred buck membership and used car purchases have. I wonder who they prefer as a customer.

Bought a few new in the past but not this go around. Then again you and I have never seen eye to eye and probably won't in the future. You can't help your elitist digs so whatever. I am just happy to be on top the Earth and not six feet under like where I was headed when I had to sell my last new Viper. Still paying the bills from the medical, surgeries, then growing family, etc. Tell you what, you do things your way and I will do them my way. Keep our comments to ourselves between us.
